With mile upon mile of golden sandy beaches, clear waters and quaint, coastal villages boasting an array of enticing restaurants, the Landes region in the South of France is the perfect place to visit with friends and family. Enjoy its mild climate and family-friendly appeal from the comfort of one of our large gites.
Celebrated amongst surfers for being home to some of the best beachbreak barrels in Europe, Landes boasts 106km of sandy beaches which languish along the coast of the Atlantic, encompassing many a popular seaside resort. Capbreton, Soorts-Hossegor and Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains are some of the most well-renowned, each offering something different, from surfing and sailing to golf and bird watching. Uniting them all is a great choice of restaurants, bars and cafés, perfect for relaxing beach days.
The huge pine forest is an outstanding feature of Landes. Planted in the 19th century to stabilise the sand dunes and replanted after destructive fires in the mid-20th century, it now supports industries such as forestry, paper production, joinery and furniture making, as well as providing some delightful scenery for walking and other outdoor activities.
Dotted close to the coast are a number of inland lakes including Biscarrosse-Parentis, where watersports include wind-surfing, dinghy sailing, jet skiing, canoeing and pedal boating. Recharge your batteries on the sandy shores with a picnic and sunbathing.
