This stunning 12th-century castle is in a prime location at the heart of Aberdeenshire, surrounded by a wide range of attractions to suit all tastes and ages. Historical properties abound in this area, including Fyvie Castle (8.5 miles), stately home Haddo House (15 miles), and Castle Fraser, Garden and Estate (16 miles).

For sand and sea air, pack a picnic and take a trip to the flat sandy beach at Balmedie (22.5 miles). Aberdeen is a 24.5-mile drive away, where there is the Science Centre, Maritime Museum, and much more to discover. Venturing further afield, younger guests will adore a trip to The Den and The Glen (27 miles), an indoor and outdoor play centre.

The interior of the property is filled with light, colour, and pattern, and is the epitome of classic luxury. On the ground floor, head from the entrance hall into the grand hall, a long and spacious living area with stylish seating, an open fire, and large bay windows. The bright and cheerful kitchen comes well-equipped with an AGA, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher, as well as a charming window seat for when you're sneaking a snack in-between meals. Serve formal dinners in the opulent dining room, and afterwards retire to either the snug/library to read a book in front of the fire or try your hand at table tennis in the games room.

The bedrooms can be found upstairs, and they have all been elegantly and sumptuously decorated in a variety of styles and colour schemes. Four of the six king-size bedrooms have their own en-suite: one comes with en-suite bath, separate shower, and WC; two have an en-suite shower and WC; and one has an en-suite bath, handheld shower and WC. The fifth king-size bedroom has its own washbasin, and along with a final king-size bedroom, the twin bedroom, and the triple with three single beds, share the two bathrooms on this floor. Both include a bath, handheld shower, and WC. In addition to the two bathrooms, there is also a separate WC.

Outside is an enclosed lawn, where you can set out the garden furniture and host a BBQ with the magnificent castle as your backdrop. Children and adults alike will love exploring the garden, and beyond it, there are woodland walks to enjoy together.

Please note there is a refundable £800 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

A popular visit for all the family is Fyvie Castle, just 8 miles away. This National Trust property is an 800-year-old fortress with historical artefacts and stunning portraits. Wander around the Loch of Fyvie and keep your eyes out for ospreys, otters, herons and even bats – an excellent hotspot for nature photographers.

Those looking to spend some time in a city can head to local Aberdeen (25 miles). Spend an afternoon mooching around the Maritime Museum or the exciting Tolbooth Museum, a former 17th-century jail. The city naturally offers a host of options for drinking and dining, as well as a long, sandy beach with a leisure centre and family funfair.

The area is, of course, made famous by its iconic Scottish whisky, and you'll find yourself staying in the heart of the Malt Whisky District. This area boasts the world's largest concentration of whisky distilleries and is a must-visit area for fans of the liquor. Various distilleries offer both tastings and tours and you can rest assured that you'll find plenty of quality whisky bars in the area. The majority of the Malt Whisky Trail can be found 30 miles away, but your closest whisky distillery is just 6 miles from home.
