This substantial stone holiday house sits in mature, wooded grounds, within the Cairngorms National Park, and is simply idyllic for large family holidays and special occasions.

Situated within the Cairngorms National Park, in the small village of Nethy Bridge, this is a wonderful house for a relaxing rural retreat among friends and family which sleeps 19 guests across nine bedrooms. A popular holiday destination since Victorian times, Nethy Bridge is also known as ‘The Forest Village’ for the way much of it is enclosed and hidden by the tall pines of Abernethy Forest. The pretty stone house is within the trees itself, so there are pleasant woodland walks from the doorstep.

Return from a day of exploring the trails, and after you’ve pulled off your boots, set about preparing dinner in the charming country kitchen. There’s plenty of worktop space plus a table for other members of the party to get stuck in and help, and with an Aga and double oven your meal will be ready in no time. Settle round the long table in the dining room to eat and share stories, before taking a seat in the living room. This has been split into two, with one half acting as a TV snug, and the other a sitting room complete with a piano. Perfect for younger guests who want their own space, or to allow the party to spread out, everyone can get comfortable for the evening. There is also the conservatory: to keep it cosy when the sun sets, light the woodburner and star gaze through the glass roofing. Upstairs, go for a soak in your tub of choice, either the corner bath or the bath enclosed in a stylish tile surround. The bedrooms, spread across the first and second floors, have been thoughtfully put together. Interesting art hangs from the walls and brightly coloured soft furnishings create a cheerful and friendly atmosphere. Spend a sunny afternoon at the house enjoying the garden, where you can set up croquet on the lawn and discover the pond within the trees. Two BBQs mean no-one is going hungry for a tasty burger, and the whole party gathered round the chiminea as night falls is a lovely way to end a day.

Leave the car behind and take the short stroll to Abernethy Golf Club for a round of golf, or pop down for a wee tipple in Nethy Bridge where you'll find a hotel bar, a pub, a shop, and cafe - all are in walking distance. For culinary essentials, there's also a supermarket nearby at Grantown-on-Spey (5 miles). For family days out, you'll find skiing in Aviemore (11 miles), a nature reserve at Loch Garten where osprey can be seen (3.5 miles), and sandy beaches, watersports and forest walks around the freshwaters of Loch Morlich (18 miles) which enjoys winter and spring views of snow-topped peaks of the Cairngorms. Hop aboard the Strathspey Railway steam train at Aviemore (11 miles), or Broomhill (2 miles), and trundle through heather-clad moorland and mountain terrain. Children will love the fun of Landmark Forest Adventure Park at Carrbridge (10 miles) which has nature trails, a butterfly house, theme park rides, tree-top adventures, and family-friendly seasonal events. Green-fingered visitors will enjoy a visit to Auchgourish Botanic Garden and Arboretum in Boat of Garten (5 miles), the most northerly botanic garden in the UK where hardy trees, rare plants, and shrubs can be seen. We had a week here with family from around the country and really enjoyed the week. Plenty of space for everyone and a large garden for the children to play in. Very quiet and private setting with plenty to do in the area too. Highly recommended.

A fantastic property for 19 family members. Plenty of entertainment options within the house and garden for all to enjoy. Having the golf course on the door step and the town a short walk made for a happy holiday.

Fantastic home for a family get together. We stayed in a party of 19(only 1 baby) and it was ideal. The weather was stunning so the big plus for us was the outside space. A covered seating area and large garden, all very quiet and secluded. The house has lots of character and is nicely set out over 3 levels. We ate out a lot but there is a good kitRead morechen and dining area with more than enough crockery and cooking equipment. Would highly recommend, location ideal for exploring Speyside. Hide
