It’s perfect for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits such as country walks, birdwatching and cycling. The barn is situated in the grounds of the owner’s property, but rest assured you’ll have all the privacy you need. And there’s plenty to keep you entertained if you don’t want to venture too far. The enclosed play paddock has outdoor games for all the family to enjoy, from giant Jenga to swing ball, and you’ll also have the opportunity to have a go at clay pigeon shooting (weather permitting!)

The property has a contemporary finish, with sleek hard flooring and chic styling throughout. At its heart is the spacious open-plan living space. Its communal areas make it easy to spend quality time with your loved ones. The large windows and French doors fill the room with light, while the vaulted ceilings add an extra sense of space. Nature lovers will be in their element at RSPB Greylake and Shapwick Heath Nature Reserve, both within 5 miles of the property. Less than 9 miles away is the famous Glastonbury Tor, which you can walk up to and admire the amazing views. The town of Glastonbury itself is also worth a visit, with its atmospheric ruined abbey, legend-steeped Chalice Well Gardens and unusual shops. Wookey Hole (15 miles) is another of the region’s highlights. Here you can tour the underground cave network, watch paper being made and brave the Dinosaur Valley. If you want to feel the sand between your toes, head to Burnham-on-Sea, 14 miles away. Its wide sandy beach is ideal for picnics and games, while the calm sea is great for swimming and paddling.

We had a wonderful week at The Big Oak Barn. The location was lovely and peaceful and the property very clean and well equipped. Rooms were lovely and spacious and the outside space was huge. Really well equipped and lovely and clean. The owner Mary was so helpful and friendly and made us really feel at home. Lovely large garden for the children to play, and plenty of seating for all to relax in the sun.

The cottage is beautiful, with everything you need. It is a great base for exploring, we went to Minehead and Lyme Regis! Closer to the cottage are the beautiful towns of Glastonbury and Wells. Although we hadn't any children in our party, the garden would make it ideal, with children's outdoor games available! The Big Oak Barn is a very private and safe location to use as a base for exploring Somerset. We have three toddlers who loved the sprawling garden and paddocks. The house was clean and tidy, well equipped. Good position to get around. Needs leaflets to help with what's good in the area to visit rather than just the rules of the letting. May need to revise no electric charging as electric cars get more prevalent.

We had a lovely stay! Beautiful barn and the owner was very helpful and took real pride in the cottage. Great garden for our children and excellent location for visiting Wells and Glastonbury.
