Set within beautiful countryside, this lovely period property makes an ideal base for enjoying breathtaking walks and bike trails through the glorious Yorkshire Dales (13.5 miles) and the fantastic Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (8 miles). There are some delightful market towns and quaint villages throughout the area including Knaresborough (5.5 miles), Ripley (1 mile) and the thriving Victorian spa town of Harrogate (4.5 miles). Heading into Nidderdale and the Dales you can visit the pretty town of Pateley Bridge (10 miles), the National Trust's Brimham Rocks (7 miles) or Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden (7.5 miles). For a day at the races, you can head north to the bustling town of Ripon (9 miles).

Stepping into this welcoming house you will find a spacious, light and welcoming lounge which makes an ideal space to relax in. With a double wood burner, TV, DVD, a pool table and a selection of books and games, this is a wonderful room to unwind in at the end of a great day. There is also an additional snug with a wood burner, oak floors and comfortable seating. You will find a formal dining room with exposed beams and views to the front of the cottage, which provides a fantastic backdrop for a special family meal. The stylish and attractive kitchen/diner is equipped with everything you may need including an induction hob, oven, American-style fridge, a dishwasher and a central kitchen island, perfect for grabbing a snack or breakfast. A further fridge/freezer and the washer/dryer are housed in a nearby utility room. There is also a handy boot room as well as a ground-floor WC. You will also find the first of the four cosy bedrooms on the ground floor. A charming double room, it has an en-suite shower room complete with WC. Going up the original stone staircase you will find three further bedrooms. There's a twin room, a double room with an original stone window surround, and a spacious master bedroom with a king-size bed, double aspect windows with woodland views, and an en-suite bathroom complete with shower overhead. There is also a family bathroom complete with a shower over the bath and a WC.

Heading out into the garden you can relax in a well-tended and completely private 1-acre plot which is divided into different areas. There's a delightful patio area with furniture, extensive lawns and a hammock, making this idyllic country garden a wonderful space to unwind in.

The cottage has an amazing location. Approached via a long and quiet lane it offers the peace and tranquillity of the Yorkshire Dales countryside with the delights of cosmopolitan Harrogate under 5 miles away. With miles of stunning walks and mountain bike trails literally from the doorstep, the cottage is a haven for lovers of the outdoors.

The nearest village is Ripley which you can see from the cottage. Less than 15 minutes' walk away, Ripley is a gorgeous little Yorkshire village which looks like a set for Downton Abbey. Little has changed in the village for many years, beautiful old stone buildings line the quiet main street and the local village pub beckons you in with its vine-covered exterior and handsome good looks. Serving up great food it's a lovely choice for lunch and dinner. There's an excellent off-road cycle/walking route from Ripley right into Harrogate (5 miles away) if you fancy working up an appetite for one of the town's excellent restaurants.

Harrogate is an absolute must if you're staying here. Encircled by its famous 'Stray' or '1,000 acres' of horseshoe-shaped grassland, the Victorian spa town of Harrogate has a bright and breezy open-air feel and is characterised by its impressive floral displays. And as you would expect of such a bustling upbeat town, Harrogate boasts over 300 bars and restaurants together with all the shops, swimming pools, cinemas, parks and gardens you could ever wish for.

Head 11 miles in the opposite direction and you will find Pateley Bridge, a charming little market town very typical of this area of Yorkshire. The Main Street is peppered with cafes, restaurants, local stores, quality butchers and a fantastic wine shop - everything you need to stock up for your stay. You'll also find the self-proclaimed 'Oldest Sweet Shop in England' here dating back to the early 1800s - little has changed inside since then.

Pateley Bridge sits at the heart of the breathtaking Nidderdale landscape, itself an AONB and immediately adjacent to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. There are bags of local attractions and stunning natural sights within easy driving distance including the much-loved Brimham Rocks, 6.5 miles from the cottage. So, lots of options for day trips!

An exceptional cottage with gorgeous garden. Great attention to beauty and comfort throughout. Access to the Dales is good and nearby Ripley has an excellent butcher and ice cream shop !

We went early August for a family holiday 7 adults, 1 child. All have a lovely time. Comfortable cottage, plenty of space, each bedroom having good en-suite and isolated (surrounded by sheep fields!). Scarah Cottage is a great holiday home if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful location close to amenities and with great walks from the doorstep. Cottage is in a great location, the garden is fabulous but spoilt by the noise from the traffic, but due to good double glazing you can hear no traffic from inside the house. The interior of the cottage is beautifully done and feels like home from home.

This was a perfect cottage for our family at New Year. Very comfortable and plenty of space with different areas where we could get together. One of the loveliest aspects were the beautiful views from every window. I would have given it a ten overall if there had been a coffee machine - but I am a bit of a coffeeholic!
