The hamlet of Wigpool sits within the mature woodland and nature reserve where you will find natural wildlife ponds and wild ponies roaming free. The vibrant village of Mitcheldean is at the bottom of the hill and is well served with a village store. The Forest of Dean and Wye Valley have plenty to offer with cycle trails and down-hill courses, abseiling and caving at Symonds Yat rock, canoeing and a high wire rope course. Also, within easy access is The Secret Forest, a beautiful woodland now reclaimed by nature, and Clearwell caves, a great underground experience with nine caverns for you to explore. On rainy days there’s also plenty to do from museums to caves or spending some time riding a steam train through the forest.

Enjoy the woodlands as you approach the gates to this traditional stone cottage, the gravel driveway offers ample parking. Open the door and step into the kitchen/diner, a contemporary space enjoying light from the glazed doors that open onto the patio. The shaker style kitchen has been finished with granite work tops with a centre island that will bring out the chef in you. There is also an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. The dining area offers a table and chairs for eight which is great for a celebration supper or two. A separate WC with utility area housing a washer/dryer is accessed off the kitchen. For relaxing, step into the lounge, with comfortable sofas and armchairs, a wood burner and TV/DVD. There is also a snug with TV/DVD, books and games, and for rainy days there is a games room with pool table, table football and darts. So, when the day is done, climb the stairs to the first floor onto the spacious landing. You will find four bedrooms, the first is a king-size with original mill framework and en-suite shower room and WC. A double with woodland views, a further double with dual aspect windows onto the woodlands and a twin room with 2’6” beds. There is a bathroom with freestanding bath, separate shower and WC that completed the accommodation.

Step outside onto the patio, where the gardens are enclosed with an open aspect onto the woodlands and Wigpool Nature Reserve. The patio area has a table and chairs and BBQ, perfect for dining alfresco. There is a private hot tub set to the side of the cottage along with a lawn area perfect for garden games. There is secure storage for bikes and ample off-road parking.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Close to the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley (9.5 miles away) you are surrounded by nature with adventures to tempt you and heritage to fascinate you. With more than 40km of cycle and mountain bike trails, you could opt for sedate and serene or muddy and mean. The family trail is a great day out for everyone but for extra thrills, take the Verderer’s Trail. Explore Clearwell Caves nine awesome show caverns, only 10 miles away and an adventure to remember for all ages; all you need is a pair of sensible shoes. Only 200 yards away is The Secret Forest, with buggies and hounds all welcome to enjoy the enchanting woodland.

This is a excellent accomodation. Well equipt. With top quality furniture and appliances . Peaceful location. Set in a great area for visiting different towns. Hot tub you can use anytime of day not worrying about upsetting the neighbours. There wasn't any. Would highly recommend.

Pit House is a well maintained, clean and wonderfully furnished property in the Forest of Dean with walks from the doorstep. We spent a very enjoyable week with family and friends, making the most of the games room and hot tub. The host went out of their way to make our stay comfortable.

We stayed at Pit House to celebrate our Golden Wedding anniversary with our immediate family, and it proved to be the perfect location for this special occasion. The house was tastefully furnished, well equipped, and the attention to detail was impressive. For anyone looking for a private get-away in beautiful surroundings, this is the place.

Pit House is stunning and in a beautiful location. We saw deers in the garden. Many forest walks from the doorstep. Only gripes were, lack of toilet roll, invasion of privacy with daily visits by the host to check on the hot tub. Poor internet and mattresses on single beds needs changing as felt the springs. Lovely location. Everything you need for all the family. House is perfect for family gatherings and lots of space. Hot tub is an added bonus and sitting in looking up to the stars is a must. The owner was very welcoming and extremely friendly nothing was to much trouble. Beautifully decorated to a very high standard through out.

This was a wonderful property in a great location. The owners personal touch of showing us where everything was located was a first and very welcome. We had a wonderful weekend celebrating my birthday and we couldnt have done it anywhere nicer. Well definitely stay here again.

We had an amazing week at Pit House. The owner was lovely and couldnt have been more helpful. The location is stunning and we enjoyed many walks through the forest and lovely evenings relaxing in the hot tub.
