With walks and trails from the door straight to Aira Force, Gowbarrow, Dowthwaitehead and Helvellyn, this large, open property is the ideal place to find some peace after a day our exploring. Overlook the landscape above Ullswater from every window whilst you plan the day's adventure.

Gaze out at the dramatic mountain views when you stay at this spacious holiday home in Matterdale, high above magnificent Ullswater. Sleeping up to eight guests, and also accommodating two of their canine companions, the generous, four-bedroom holiday home is in a perfect location for a group of family or friends seeking to immerse themselves in the scenery of the Lake District National Park. From here, strike out straight from the cottage on hikes across the fells to nearby beauty spots. Walk 1.5 miles to see the famous Aira Force Waterfall or 2 miles down to the shores of the lake. Follow the 20-mile route that goes all the way around beautiful Ullswater. Find cafes and pubs in Glenridding, 4.5 miles away, or Pooley Bridge, 6.5 miles away, when you want to eat out.

Open the door on to this substantial abode, store shoes and jackets in the porch, and make your way through into the open-plan lounge/diner. Stoke up the wood burner, then settle down to watch your favourite programme on TV, or a DVD, in its cosy glow. Take three steps up into the kitchen to make everyone a cup of tea and cut them a slice of cake that you can pick up from the tea shop in Pooley Bridge. Whip up a tasty meal in here too with the other produce you have bought, then serve it up later at the splendid table next door. Find there is also a utility room, plus a shower room and a twin bedroom, which can be arranged as a super-king-size bed if discussed in advance, downstairs too. Make your way upstairs and pause on the galleried landing to absorb the sweeping Lakeland vistas. Take a few more steps up to a twin room, plus a double, with a Jack and Jill shower room, and a king-size, with a Jack and Jill bathroom. Both the Jack and Jill bathrooms can be accessed from the landing if required. Soak up the sunshine out in the enclosed garden across the road from the house. Alternatively, dine outside in the courtyard garden behind the property, where it is also pleasant to enjoy a glass of wine as the sun goes down. Find parking for up to four cars and wall racks to which you can secure five bicycles with your own locks at the house.
