Follow in the steps of royalty when you step into this impressive 700-year-old castle, which sleeps up to 12 guests. In more recent times, the substantial historic property has been home to the cast and crew of TV drama series Outlander, when they filmed at adjacent Doune Castle, a former medieval stronghold. Luxuriate in the sumptuous splendour of the accommodation here, wander through acres of private parkland and stroll into Doune, less than 0.5 miles away, with its intriguing shops and exceptional restaurants. During your stay, also take the opportunity to explore Stirling, 8.5 miles away, with its own famous castle high up on the rocks.

Discover the abundant character and incredible ambience throughout your private castle, with its exposed beams, stone fireplaces and wood panelling. At ground-floor level, your capacious kitchen/diner extends a warm welcome with its AGA and long table. There is also an atmospheric music room, a boot room and a family shower room at this level. Head up to one first-floor section of the castle to find your impressive drawing and dining rooms, where you can relax and dine together in complete comfort. Take a few steps up to one of your bedrooms and a bathroom; also find an attic bedroom and another bathroom close by. Your other first floor level accommodates your inviting lounge or long room, where you can recline in front of the TV or pick up a cue for a game of snooker. A family bedroom is also located here. Find three more bedrooms, a family bathroom and a shower room in your own private tower. One of these rooms even has a priest hole.   Please be aware of the historic, castle-style stairs throughout the property, which may make the accommodation unsuitable for young or less mobile guests.

Explore the acres of parkland in which your castle is set at your leisure. Sun yourself in your walled garden or amble across the lawns. Private parking is available on site.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £600 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

Take a short stroll to your neighbouring stronghold, 14th-century Doune Castle (you may recognise it from Monthy Python films), or wander into the village of Doune and explore its shops, cafes, and eateries. The surrounding area is perfect for wildlife walks and if you want to get even closer, pay a visit to Argaty Red Kites farm (2 miles) on the Braes of Doune where red kites have been reintroduced and where there's a feeding station so you can see these spectacular birds up close and in their majestic flight. Visit Stirling (8.5 miles) and its extraordinary 16th-century castle and palace which command a lofty position over the small city with far-reaching views of the countryside - highlights include the Great Hall, the Royal Chapel, and the Castle Vaults where younger visitors can enjoy interactive exhibitions. Or take a drive to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park where you can go fishing, cycle woodland trails by Loch Venachar and hike the rugged landscape of Callander's Pass. Be sure to also visit Callander town, popular in Victorian times with romantic poets and artists; today you can enjoy its wonderful architecture, shops, and cafes or hire bikes for those forest adventures. As evening falls, you'll enjoy the drive home where you can relax in the garden with a favourite wee dram and watch the sun go down over Doune castle. We booked Old Newton for a family holiday in July 2019. We had a wonderful time. Old Newton is the most beautiful building with character. All rooms were different and furnished to the highest of standards. Vicki, the owner greeted us and was most welcoming. She even brought extra dog beds for our pets, which was a lovely extra touch. The walled gaRead morerden allows for privacy and is a haven of peace, it is very well stocked and just lovely. Doune has lots of walks and wildlife which we enjoyed. We also visited Stirling and some surrounding towns as they were easily assessible. We would absolutely recommend a stay. We intend to book again soon. Hide
