Full of character, and providing a cosy getaway in the heart of the Wye Valley, this beautiful, detached cottage makes a wonderful holiday home for up to eight guests. Situated in a tranquil and secluded spot, the cottage is surrounded by ancient woodland, making it a fabulous retreat for larger families and groups of friends exploring this spectacular part of Monmouthshire. With glorious views across to the mountains, this bright and friendly lodge is set in a beautiful part of an extensive 270-acre farmland estate with chances to spot deer, woodpeckers and owls. There are miles of breathtaking walks and cycle trails for you to follow, with the Brecon Beacons to the west and the River Severn further to the east.

The welcoming lounge offers two friendly seating areas: one in front of the Smart TV and the other around the wood burner, ideal for snuggling up at the end of a great day. The spacious and refreshing L-shaped kitchen/diner is fully equipped and has a range of cookery books, a second wood burner, a large family dining table and a shuttered hatch to the lounge. The cottage features four cosy, tastefully decorated bedrooms. A ground-floor en-suite super-king-size room has huge windows looking over the garden. Upstairs, a charming king-size room overlooks the garden, while to double room and a super-king-size zip-and-link have stunning south-facing views. There’s also a first-floor shower room and a separate bathroom with a claw-foot bath. Stepping outside, the large, enclosed garden has plenty of space for children to play. There’s a choice of outdoor furniture, with a table and chairs on the grass and a BBQ and chiminea a little nearer the house too. The garden backs onto woodland visited by a wide range of wildlife.

The cottage makes a fabulous base for keen walkers and cyclists exploring the hills, canals, ruined castles and welcoming market towns of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Both the historic towns of Chepstow (14 miles) and Monmouth (4.5 miles) offer a great choice of friendly restaurants, pubs and independent shops. Monmouth is also home to the Kymin, Nelson Garden, the Priory, Cornwall House, a Regimental Museum and the remains of Monmouth Castle. In Chepstow, you can spend a day at the races or explore the beautifully preserved Chepstow Castle. The awe-inspiring remains of Tintern Abbey are nearby (7.5 miles), with other local popular attractions and landmarks including the Wye Valley Sculpture Garden (7.5 miles), Clearwell Caves (9.5 miles), Raglan Castle (8.5 miles) and Veddw House Garden (8.5 miles). Heading west, the bustling town of Abergavenny (17 miles) makes a fantastic gateway to the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The cottage is in an idyllic setting with fantastic views over the countryside and a small wood. The cottage is very comfortable, it has a really welcoming feel to it. Being well laid out with plenty of space, all bedrooms are generous in size and beds have very good quality bedding. Our party of eight had a wonderful long weekend celebrating a family member'!SELECTED!s 80th birthday here. Beatrice was a great host, who was very friendly and !ENDOFSELECTED!welcoming. The facilities are excellent and having a bedroom/ en-suite downstairs worked so well for the less mobile members. The beds were extremely comfortable too. Lovely peaceful location within easy reach of places to visit. Great for walking. Beautifully decorated and cosy. We didn't use the lovely sitting room much though as dogs were not allowed in there. I completely understand the reasoning and there was ample seating for us all in the hard-floored areas. Cottage was perfect for our long weekend away. Great for walks in countryside with fantastic views and great pub sunday lunch halfway round. Really comfortable and well equipped. Owners were really welcoming and made sure all was in place for us.

We had a wonderful stay. It is a beautiful cottage with lovely surroundings. It was lovely to see some of the animals. The cottage is very homely and we did not want to leave! One of the owners was there when we arrived and he was very helpful and friendly. The only issue was the driveway which is very uneven so you need to go very slowly and carefRead moreully. Might be particularly difficult for a smaller car. But overall a great place to stay! Hide

Lovely, peaceful retreat, we came to the cottage as a family of cousins for a local wedding. The home is so cosy, tastefully decorated and fitted 7 of us comfortably- would highly recommend!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the lodge. The house and garden were perfect for our needs and the children loved the constant exposure to all the farm animals and the dogs that would welcome us back after every outing. The only downside was the bumpy road leading up to the house however we were forewarned and were expecting it.

We had a really lovely stay at the cottage. We love staying in rural cottages, away from the hustle and this cottage was perfect for that. We found it a great location to go off and explore from. The cottage is very clean and comfortable and the hosts really helpful.

Lovely place, good location. If you want to go out a lot you need to negotiate half a mile of humps, ruts & potholes every time, which gets really tedious, & will not do your tyres & suspension a lot of good Otherwise, I would highly recommend

A lovely cottage in a fabulous setting. The house was well equipped and tastefully decorated but casual enough to feel comfortable. The enclosed garden is spacious and sunny with plenty of outdoor seating, a large barbecue and a beautiful view. Family of 7 and dog really enjoyed our long weekend at the lower lodge. It was clean and a nice size for us all. Beds were super comfy, Kitchen had all required and so thankful for the dishwasher. They left a few logs, so could experience a log fire which was very nice. Site is on a farm and so recommend bringing spare wellies / shoes. Dog loved thRead moree large enclosed garden. Lovely cottage, plenty of space and bathrooms for 8 of us (6 adults and 2 children). Lovely garden. Everything we needed in the kitchen was provided. Cozy and relaxing lounge. We enjoyed a lovely family stay for 6 nights back in September. The cottage is very remote, which was perfect. My parents got lost trying to find it with the address in their GPS, though we did find it straightaway using the postcode. Lower Lodge is one of the nicest places weve ever stayed. We loved the property and location. The owners could not have been more kind, helpful and welcoming. Very well maintained cottage . Wild recommend and Ideal for someone to take a peaceful break in wales away from cities . But at same time access to Monmouth town is a very short drive when needed . Owners were easily accessible and friendly.
