A spacious Lakeland retreat, overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake, with spacious accommodation and delightful gardens, close to the shore and 4 miles from Keswick.

Studded in rural splendour just a short walk from the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake is this spacious holiday home that’s perfect for large families. Sleeping eight across four bedrooms, it is characterised by glorious mountain views, crackling wood burners and all the extras you need to entertain your entire group. You’ll be positioned near the village of Thornthwaite close to Whinlatter Forest Park and myriad cycle trails. There’s plenty to choose from when it comes to adventure, so pack a picnic and set off to explore.

Charming from the outset, this sizeable property boasts a delightful blend of period features and contemporary style, combining chic furnishings with rustic home comforts. Escape the elements and hunker down inside, swapping your walking boots for slippers and arming yourself with a generous mug of hot cocoa for an evening of games, films and good food. A double-sided wood burner keeps both the lounge and sunroom toasty whilst you relax, so all you’ll need to do is choose a tipple to enjoy it with. A few steps lead up to the elegant kitchen/diner that’s excellently equipped for whipping up meals, and there is even a games room to keep the youngsters occupied whilst you cook. Climb the stairs to find the bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite bathroom, with the remainder sharing the family shower room and the ground-floor shower room. Downstairs, the garden is a beautiful spot to dine alfresco with views of Bassenthwaite Lake.

Please note, the property will be welcoming pets as of 9th August 2024.

Bassenthwaite Lake is one of the most spellbinding sights of the Lake District National Park, and it is easy to see why as you make your way down to the water’s edge. Wildlife spotting is a popular activity here and, if you are feeling brave, it is also a great place to try wild swimming. Delve deeper into the woodland of Whinlatter Forest Park (4 miles) and thrill the children by playing hide-and-seek amongst the trees, perhaps even going as far as to book an aerial adventure with Go Ape. Mountain biking is a sheer thrill throughout the fells, and if you venture into Keswick (6 miles) you’ll be rewarded with a slap-up lunch in one of the many pubs, cafes or tearooms. Browse the independent shops and come away with a few souvenirs, take the time to visit the museum, and book to see a show at the Theatre by the Lake. Derwentwater is a short walk from the main town, offering a wide range of water sports such as kayaking, paddleboarding and sailing.

The house was ideal. A proper 8 bed house with a sociable downstairs, a good range of bedrooms and stunning views. It is also in an ideal location with the Lakes easily accessible but a quiet base. Good access to Whinlatter and stunning views from Barf Mountain. Even got to watch Red Squirrels scamper through the garden. We would recommend to any gRead moreroup thinking of booking. Hide

The cottage is surprisingly large. It does not show well in the pictures as it looks small. There is a good deal of space. It is well appointed except for the kitchen knives that need replaced or machine sharpened. It is a very comfortable place to stay...we had a lovely time.

The cottage was a great base to explore the Lakes. It was well equipped and had lots of seating areas to relax at the end of the day. The beds were very comfortable and clean. Although towels were stated as not provided, hand towels, & tea towels were, which was great. Generous parking area which really could take 4 cars if needed.
