Nestling in the beautiful Buttermere Valley, this Lakeland cottage offers capacious outdoor spaces for letting off steam, and cosy interiors for snuggling in front of the open fire with friends and family.

A haven for walkers of all abilities, Buttermere is a spectacular setting characterised by towering pikes, ancient woodland and three serene glacial lakes that carry a powerful ethereal beauty. This traditional farmhouse sleeps eight guests across four bedrooms and provides a tranquil setting for cosy evenings best spent sipping cocoa in front of the fire. Your itinerary will be filled with scenic rambles and hearty lunches in the friendliest of country inns, not to mention frequent visits to charming Lakeland towns and villages. For the adrenaline-seekers, Keswick (11.5 miles) is somewhat of an adventure hot spot, but you’ll also have plenty to discover from the comfort of your doorstep.

An open fire crackles in the lounge, inviting your group to settle down on the sofas and tuck into some locally sourced treats as soon as you have kicked off your walking boots at the entrance. Watch TV, play a DVD or break out some board games whilst listening to your favourite tunes using the iPod dock, moving through to the sunroom to read a book and appreciate the views if you need a moment’s peace. A country-cottage kitchen aims to please with its traditional AGA and contemporary appliances, tempting foodies with the promise of hearty meals best enjoyed around the farmhouse-style table in the dining room. There’s also a utility room for practicality and a downstairs WC. Upstairs, all four bedrooms are a restful sanctuary, two of which have en-suite shower rooms. The remainder share the excellent bathroom with its walk-in shower and bath. Outside, the extensive garden is primed for picnics on the lawn and morning coffee on the bench on the raised patio. Parking space is available for four cars and there is storage for bikes too.

Offering lakeside strolls, bog hopping and scrambling, Crummock Water is the longest of Buttermere’s lakes and is also a popular spot for wild swimming if you are feeling brave enough to set foot in the water. The Scale Force waterfall reaches a staggering height of 170 feet and is one of the many impressive sights you’ll see whilst exploring. Take things up a notch and visit Keswick to arrange a day of canyoning, kayaking or paddleboarding, thrilling even the most reluctant daredevils amongst you. Whilst the thrill-seekers are off on their travels, those who prefer a quieter pace can enjoy the simple pleasures of Keswick’s many shops and eateries, regrouping to experience the iconic theatre by the lake for a healthy dose of culture.

Fantastic! What a house and views to die for from the sun room. As most of the time was spent in this room admiring Melbreak, a few more easy chairs would not go amiss. Incidentally, a lovely touch - the child's work table in this room was appreciated. A warm, large and comfortable house. The house is situated in a stunning location with plenty of parking, lovely garden area and access to the fells from the front door. We felt it required updating, especially in the kitchen and bedroom areas. Lacking some simple but essential kitchen items (Oven Gloves, refuse bags general kitchen linen) Open fire definitely challenging! Wood burnerRead more would be an excellent upgrade. Overall, stunning location, Conservatory views fabulous, if you like rustic farmhouse style..its a tick Hide

We had a lovely week with family aged 1 - 76. We were unusually lucky with the weather - warm and sunny all week. Plenty of space for everyone. Lovely views sitting in the garden or conservatory. Bonus to be able to walk to Crummock water.

This was a spacious house with a beautiful conservatory, in a lovely location. Beautiful views of the mountains right from the well kempt garden. Plenty of space in the garden for the children to run around. The kitchen was well equipped with a warm AGA too! Two out of four bedrooms were n-suite. It's a shame while we were there that a rain storm dRead moreislodged the private water supply pipe and we were left without water for a day-and-a-half.
