Sleeping 18 guests, the eight-bedroom, Aberdeenshire abode is set within an estate extending to some 400 acres, where you and your family and friends can wander to your hearts’ content. The perfect backdrop to a special celebration or luxurious holiday with your nearest and dearest, the castle dates back to the 19th century and was once home to Prime Minister William Gladstone. Today it offers the opportunity for a unique holiday experience, providing a high level of comfort as well as the chance to step back in time.

Step into the spectacular reception hall, where a magnificent split staircase makes an immediate impression. Head on through to discover your sumptuous accommodation, which includes a lounge bar, where you can relax with your family and friends, and a characterful lounge, where you can light the open fire and settle down to read your book for a while or soak up the views. Amble through to the billiards room for a game of snooker or settle in here for a while to watch TV. Arrange teams of people to take turns at preparing superb dinners for everyone to sit down to in the kitchen/diner, where you will find a useful dishwasher, plus a washing machine. Dine in here or up in the elegant, first-floor dining room. Find there is also a ground-floor WC and a study for anyone with work to catch up on. Wander upstairs to discover your incredible bedrooms. Lace up your walking boots, pack a picnic of Scottish delicacies and strike out on exciting walks out across the Aberdeenshire countryside. Plan trips out to the coast at St Cyrus, 10 miles away, to spend time on the sandy beach, paddle in the sea and see colonies of seabirds nesting up on the cliffs.

Make trips into Montrose, 14 miles away, to dine out at a restaurant or pub serving delicious local produce. Browse the shops and boutiques and visit the farmers’ market, held on the first Saturday of the month within the town. While away an afternoon at the Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre or head down to the beautiful beach. Play golf at the famous Montrose Links, with its far-reaching sea views.

Have a day out to the charming, harbour town of Stonehaven, 19 miles away, with its museum that was once a courthouse and jail. Head 2 miles south of Stonehaven to see the dramatic ruins of Dunnottar Castle. Venture 20 miles from your base to RSPB Scotland Fowlsheugh, some 4.5 miles from Stonehaven, where you can walk out along the cliffs looking for guillemots, puffins and grey seals, and, if you are lucky, dolphins and minke whales.
