If you can tear yourself away from your holiday hideaway there is plenty to see and do within easy reach of your house. Discover the atmospheric ruins of 17th-century Conzie Castle (7.5 miles) and share a picnic in the grounds. Take a tour of GlenDronach Distillery (1 mile) founded in 1826, taste some of their sherry-matured whiskies and pick up a bottle of your favourite. Pull on your walking boots for a hike up Oxen Craig and Mither Tap (14.5 miles) for uninterrupted views across the highlands. Spend the day sunbathing and playing beach cricket at Banff (17 miles) before feasting on locally caught seafood in one of the harbourside restaurants.

With turrets and towers stretching from the roof, from the moment you first glimpse your holiday home you will know you are staying somewhere special. Follow the driveway through the grounds and park your car by the entrance porch, the ideal place for leaving coats and boots. Step into the entrance hall to be greeted by the ticking of the grandfather clock. Leave your keys on the occasional table and head into the main living space. Off the hallway is your warm and welcoming drawing room, a cosy space decorated in warm tones with artwork adorning the walls. Sink into the plump sofas and enjoy the flames flickering in the open fire as you chat the night away. For family movie nights head into the family room, a light and airy room with comfortable sofas and windows overlooking the grounds. The spacious kitchen/diner is a sociable space with original floorboards, pitch pine units and bright crockery arranged on the dresser. Plan your day over a coffee at the rustic breakfast table where younger guests can sit and enjoy their cereal. Keen cooks will appreciate the well-equipped kitchen that boasts a four-oven AGA, four plate hob and electric oven (located in the utility room), fridge, freezer and dishwasher. Rustle up a meal of locally sourced produce to share around the formal dining table that comfortably seats all guests and enjoys views across the garden. Off the kitchen you will find the handy utility room/boot room with a washing machine and dryer for your convenience. On the ground floor, you will also find the first of the seven bedrooms, a bright and airy twin bedroom benefitting from an en-suite bathroom with bath with shower attachment and WC. There are two sweeping staircases leading to the upper floor, one accessed from the family room and the other in the main entrance hall. Ascend to the first floor where you will find six stylish bedrooms, most enjoying garden views. The spacious and airy double four-poster bed invites you to snuggle up under its canopy and drift off for the night. Two double bedrooms have sumptuous soft furnishings and eclectic artwork on the walls. These bedrooms access a contemporary Jack and Jill bathroom with WC. The master double bedroom boasts a coronet bed head and muted tartan bedstead and headboard with wonderful views across the garden. Two single bedrooms are accessed from the master bedroom, one with a pretty four-poster single bed which young guests will adore. The master bedroom also enjoys a spacious en-suite bathroom with WC. A door from the bedroom accesses the rear staircase leading to the ground-floor family room. The tower shower room with WC is a generous room with unusual floor-level window.

With acres of grounds to explore, including shady woodlands and formal gardens, spend your days strolling the grounds or reading a book beneath a sheltering tree. Spread your picnic blanket on the lawn for some sunbathing or enjoy garden games in the extensive grounds. Wake up with a morning coffee on the suntrap rear courtyard or socialise late into the evening with a relaxed al fresco BBQ.

This is a fantastic rural part of Scotland, ideal for those who want to make the most of being in the great outdoors while still being within easy reach of plenty to do. Head to the Huntly Nordic and Outdoor Centre (11.5 miles) for skiing and roller skiing no matter the weather, or get friendly with owls, eagles and more at the North East Falconry Centre (13 miles). Little imaginations will love the Grampian Transport Museum (22.5 miles) that has ever-changing exhibits and multi-media presentations.

Enjoy plenty of walks around the area, whether you want a leisurely stroll or a more challenging hike. Complete a 6-mile route starting in Huntly (9 miles from the property), through Kinnoir Wood (8.5 miles) and around the Hill of Mungo before looping back into the village. While you're there, take a look at Huntly Castle (11.5 miles), the ruins of the ancestral home of the chief of Clan Gordon, Earl of Huntly.

Less than a mile from the house, the GlenDronach Distillery is well worth a visit with its regular daily tours, showing visitors how its whisky has been made since it opened in 1826. After sampling some single malts, head to Turiff (9.5 miles) where there are plenty of pubs and restaurants to choose from. Further afield, yet within easy reach is Aberdeen (35 miles) where you'll get the taste of city life if you crave the hustle and bustle. Take some time out for retail therapy, walk the cobbles of Old Aberdeen or watch at the harbour mouth to see if you can spot any dolphins.

We chose Drumblair House at last minute. We were nervous given Scotland was just coming out of lockdown, but we needn't have worried. It was a wonderful place to stay, comfortable, loads of amenities, particularly suited for a larger group where we could lose ourselves in house and grounds, or come together around the huge dining table. We played tRead moreable tennis, croquet, and the owner made great recommendations including a nature boat trip (from Macduff) and walking up Bennachie. A fab holiday. Hide

We had the most amazing stay at Drumblair House over our wedding weekend. The house is very beautiful. The rooms are full of art and history while still keeping a homely feel. We had a lovely evening entertaining in the dining room/kitchen area on the Friday night and it is a perfect space for this. On the day of the wedding there was plenty of spaRead morece for everyone to get ready and the make up artist and hairdresser also commented on how lovely the house was. On the Sunday, we enjoyed walking about in the pretty grounds and the walled garden is stunning, even in the freezing cold weather. It made coming back to cosy up in front of the fire bliss! We cannot wait to return to Drumblair in the future with family and friends. The owner is also lovely and you can contact her directly which is great for any questions. We booked Drumblair as accommodation for guests at our wedding which was in the area. It was perfect for this. We had 12 guests, who all loved their stay. The grounds are just beautiful and it was an idyllic setting. The dining room comfortably accommodated both of our families, and friends the night before the wedding for a meal.
