The village of Drumnadrochit is surrounded by Glen Urquhart and Glenmoriston, as well as the Great Glen that reaches across from Inverness in the east to Fort William in the west. The shores of Loch Ness are world famous for their dramatic scenery, great adventure sports, nearby castles and, of course, the Loch Ness Monster. Take a cruise from Drumnadrochit, Inverness (16 miles) or Fort Augustus (19 miles) to enjoy a day on the water, or visit the historic Urquhart Castle, a classic romantic ruin jutting out into the loch. Golfers can play nine holes at Fort Augustus Golf Club or, further afield, visit Kings Golf Club (32 miles). Head to the shore of Loch Lochy (14 miles) and tackle Sron aChoire Ghairbh and Meall na Teanga, your two closest Munros and not for the faint hearted! Active Highs (29 miles) offers canyoning, kayaking, white-water rafting, gorge walking, climbing and abseiling. Head south to Fort William (45 miles), renowned for being an ‘all-year-round’ destination with water sports in the summer and skiing in the hills during the winter months. It offers a great selection of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Northwards, Inverness (16 miles) is a thriving city offering shopping, culture, eating and drinking. Discover riverside restaurants, bustling pavement cafes as well as a wide range of independent retailers and popular high-street names.
