Beautiful character  cottage sleeping nine, enjoying a quiet location in the picturesque village of Briantspuddle in Dorset, just ten miles from the county’s dramatic coastline, with its beaches, clifftop walks, and fossil-rich geology.

Step back in time with an indulgent stay in this enchanting thatched cottage that’s nestled in the chocolate-box village of Briantspuddle. Sleeping nine guests across five charming bedrooms, it is the perfect base for families and friendship groups seeking escapism in rural splendour. Roaring fires, period features and stunning views set the scene, enveloping guests in its warm embrace as you collapse on the sofas to relax and unwind. Tap out a tune on the baby grand piano, or simply sit back and enjoy the ambience with a glass of wine in hand.

Quintessential and cosy, this Grade II-listed cottage has all the traditional charm you would expect from a period property, including character beams, uneven floors, small steps and cottage-style stairs. It has been tastefully decorated in a cheerful style that’s in keeping with its rich heritage, so even the kitchen seems timeless despite being generously equipped with all the gadgets and appliances you need to prepare a feast. Linger over fresh coffee and pastries at the breakfast table or enjoy a taste of fine dining in the conservatory up a step, marvelling at the views of the garden. Each bedroom has been transformed into a restful haven of crisp linen and comfortable furniture, and two bathrooms serve the weary and muddy traveller well when you need refreshing. Outside, the vast expanse of garden has a beautiful backdrop of rolling countryside, accessed via a few steps leading from a sunny patio area. There’s ample parking for three cars, and a 2-mile drive will bring you to the nearest pub if you don’t fancy cooking.

Briantspuddle is part of a cluster of villages in the Lower Piddle Valley, just 2.5-miles from Tolpuddle, which is famous for its poignant history regarding the Tolpuddle Martyrs. Discover more about their story in the local museum as you explore this delightful little village, and you’ll also be able to spot the symbolic sycamore tree that still stands to this day. Further afield, the Bovington Tank Museum and Monkey World are both just 4 miles away, and the beautiful coastline is easily reached within a 10-mile drive. Hunt for fossils at Kimmeridge (14.5 miles), scrambling amongst the pebbles to locate your prize, or join one of the activities organised by the Wild Seas Centre and try your hand at dolphin watching, rock pool rambling, and crabbing. No stay would be complete without taking in the magnificent sights of Lulworth Cove (11 miles) and Corfe Castle (12.5 miles), two iconic destinations for a traditional Dorset day trip.

Cottage is in a superb location. Very rural, in a beautiful village. Very large garden, although not great for low mobility. Very steep stairs inside to upstairs... Ground floor bedroom & shower room are not en-suite & are at either end of the house. My mum who has low mobility found them ok to use, even with a couple of level changes. We were delighted to come back to Cornerstone Cottage. We love the atmosphere and it's a charming, characterful and spacious place to spend a week in. The location was perfect for beaches and woods, we didn't travel far and found everything we wanted close by.

The cottage had a lovely cosy feel to it and we particularly enjoyed the open fire and appreciated the plentiful supply of wood. It would be helpful to have some kind of hanging space for clothes in the downstairs bedroom. This would be more practical and useful than the bookcase. A lovely picturesque cottage but cleanliness needs a lot of attention. The property could be a lot nicer with some minor maintenance work. This is a lovely large cottage in an ideal area for visiting all of the attractions Dorset has to offer. As it is an old cottage, there are some uneven floors and a variety of different sized steps to be encountered. Our toddler coped quite well with these but did need supervision. The bedrooms are a good size and the beds quite comfortable. The kiRead moretchen is well-equipped and the welcome basket a nice touch. The metre drop from the lawn to the patio means that children need supervision. Hide
