The rural village of Hayton is the perfect vantage point for touring the Cumbrian coastline and, with thriving seaside towns such as Maryport and Allonby easily reached within 6 miles, you’ll be spoilt for choice of where to explore first.

Escape the elements and spill into the lounge after a long day of adventures, swapping your walking boots for slippers and reclining on the exquisite sofas. There is a TV for all those family films you’ll soon be enjoying and, if you light the wood burner, you are sure to feel completely at home. Mealtimes are a glamorous affair thanks to the chic kitchen with its contemporary array of equipment, and the spacious table will give you the sense of being abroad when you throw open the French doors on sunny afternoons. In terms of conveniences, there is a utility room and a cloakroom for storing all of your outdoor gear. At bedtime, all four bedrooms are a sanctuary on the first floor, one of which boasts an en-suite, with the remainder sharing a generous bathroom. Outside, the huge garden is the real treat with its views of the Solway Firth and marvellous entertaining area that features outdoor furniture, a bar area, BBQ and hot tub. Delve into the history of Maryport (6 miles) and learn more about its fascinating streets lined with Georgian and Victorian architecture. The harbour is well worth perusing along with the Lake District Coast Aquarium, plus there are lots of restaurants, cafes and pubs to choose from when it is time to reward your efforts. Allonby’s beach and coastal walks are sure to please 3 miles away too, and the sunsets at Silloth (10.5 miles) are not to be missed. Heading inland, the western lakes are stunningly beautiful with more exciting walks than you could wish for. Discover Bassenthwaite Lake, the nearest of the lakes at 10 miles away, meander around ethereal Buttermere and venture deeper into the heart of the national park for water sports on Derwentwater (21.5 miles).

Wonderful stay at s beautiful house, very clean, well equipped and hot tub was a bonus. Large garden which got the sun all day. I will definitely be recommending and looking to come back in future

This is by far the best holiday home we have been in, and we have been in a few. The house was fabulous, wanting for nothing and very clean. In our party we had a family of five adults and our German shepherd dog. The garden was excellent for the dog and for games in the garden. The cottage was beautiful could not have asked for anything nicer, the garden was amazing. We took two dogs, my dog is 14 year old chocolate Labrador who loved the garden he was able to potter around. It was very safe for both children and dogs they couldnt get out. Me and my family loved it. The house is stunning, very clean, very equipped with everything you need for cooking and cleaning. The garden is beautiful and much bigger than first expected. The hot tub was great, climbing frame and swings for the kids, loads of toys and books to keep the kids occupied. Beautiful house, very comfortable beds. Clean. Lots of storage areas - the separate utility room was great! Kitchen was well equipped. Hot tub was amazing and we used it everyday. What a beautiful find. Booked this lodge after coming across it on holiday cottages, for a surprise family get together for a joint family celebration. Really nice cottage with great facilities. Only issue to be aware of is location. You definitely need a car as there is no pub or restaurant in the village. But overall well worth a stay. The beech (1 miles away) is beautiful

We stayed for a long weekend and had a fabulous time, despite very wet Lakeland weather! Castlegate House is a beautiful property and was spotlessly clean. We had plenty space for 4 adults and 3 children and the garden was fantastic. Weve stayed in lots of holiday cottages over the years and I have a tendency to be picky, but Castlegate was brilliaRead morent. We hope to return in summer and make better use of the outdoor space.
