This property is tucked away on the western coast of Scotland within the Knapdale Peninsula, far removed from the hustle and bustle of modern life. With limited phone reception and a fantastically rural location, it's an ideal retreat for guests seeking solitude in spectacular surroundings. The icing on the cake is access to a secluded sandy beach and Hill Loch Fishing, where you can catch wild brown trout.

The house is accessed via a single-track road that meanders along the coastline between Tarbert and Lochgilphead, where you'll discover a treasure trove of quiet beaches, hidden coves and historical remnants dating back to the bronze age. Keen cyclists will relish the opportunity to explore by bike, but it's also delightful for a leisurely drive. Be sure to stop at the Kilberry Inn, 4 miles away, to sample mouth-wateringly fresh produce and locally sourced Fyne ales.Equally delicious is the Boat House on Gigha, with locally grown Turbot – be sure to book in advance.

The fishing village of Tarbert (11 miles) has an array of shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes at your disposal, along with an excellent nine-hole golf course for the golfing enthusiasts in your party. No visit is complete without a day trip to the Islay, a whisky lover's dream with nine working distilleries, but the RSBP reserve is truly something special as you may even spot a golden eagle.

Carse House was the perfect backdrop for a special but very relaxed family gathering. The house is large but not overwhelming thanks to the cosy feel of each floor and we found it warm, welcoming and easy to settle in to. We enjoyed the generous sized rooms, comfortable beds with good quality duvets and linens, quick and plentiful hot water, well eRead morequipped kitchen, open fires and amazing views. No WiFi connectivity and low/no phone signal during our stay only added to the sense of winding down. Hide
