Richmond Castle, just 5.5 miles away, is well worth the visit for its stunning views of the Yorkshire Dales alone. Bring a picnic and take in the view before exploring the secluded gardens and learning the history of the castle from the interactive exhibition. Other castles close by that are worth exploring include Middleham Castle (14 miles), Barnard Castle (19 miles) and Bolton Castle (17 miles). Thorp Perrow, just 10 miles away, covers 100 acres and is a great spot to walk around. Find the tearoom for an afternoon treat, watch the bird of prey displays or make friends with the meerkats and wallabies.

Beautiful family house, lovely setting. Nice gifts for us on arrival. We were made to feel welcome by the caretaker and the village in general. Had some lovely days out with our family. Would recommend!

We found property very family friendly plenty of space for the twelve of us to move about The grounds were great for us and the dog. The caretaker was very helpful. A place to unwind with a pub and shops very close.

We were a party of 10 aged between 9 and 77, plus dog. Brookside was ideal for our family's various needs. The house is full of character, spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. Brookside is a perfect gem, very spacious, beautifully furnished and decorated, with a stunning sun room which was favourite with dogs and readers. There is plenty of room for equipment and childrens bikes etc. . Our very helpful host left a thoughtful welcome pack and was on hand in case we needed help. Beautiful old building with plenty of character. Very comfortable and ideal for a large family gathering. Well equipped and cooking on an Aga for the first time ever proved entertaining. Well equipped spacious house with a wonderful family feeling and in a great location. The Caretaker Darcy made us immediately feel at home and the welcome pack was generous and appropriate for all age groups and as it was December it was wonderful to have Christmas decorations. the house is in Catterick Village not Richmond itself and it would take time to walk there. The village is pretty with a local co-op and pub. The house is really well appointed with good beds and lovely linen. A hamper of goodies was waiting for us on arrival. We had such a lovely stay at this beautiful cottage. Darcy was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble, he also looked after us with a lovely welcome basket. We would definitely recommend this cottage!

Nice week away for 9 people. Equipment in kitchen good. Spacious. However house needs modernisation and under cupboards and beds were dust and rubbish. Water pressure for showers low- needs electric. We absolutely loved our stay at Beckside. It's in such a beautiful, quiet spot with a little beck running outside with ducks and ducklings. We were a family of 11 and there was plenty of room for us all to find a quiet spot as well as a lovely, large and very well-equipped kitchen. It's location meant we could easily reach the Dales, Richmond and NRead moreorth Allerton for Betty's tearoom as well as take day trips to the Yorkshire coast. The breweries at Masham are also nearby. Highly recommended! Hide

This is a fantastic large family house. There were 12 of us, 7 adults and 5 children and there was plenty of room, the kids loved playing hide and seek. The big garden is lovely , we spent a lot of time outside, lots of space to run around. The welcome basket was a lovely touch and much appreciated. We would love to visit again.

Lovely cottage with a comfortable kitchen. Ideal for large gatherings. Good communication from the owner who is also the caretaker who lives next door right from the booking stages. This was our first trip up to Yorkshire and we were not disappointed. The house easily accommodated 2 large families and one bouncy puppy. There is so much to see and do in the nearby area and it was great to come back to the fantastic house and the pb across the beck to unwind. A beautiful house, wonderful to live in, tastefully and imaginatively renovated. Highlights for me were a fabulous kitchen, an amazing two-story sun room, and a beautiful garden. Set on the banks of an idyllic stream in the very lovely village of Catterick.

Fantastic house in a great location! This property comfortably took 12 of us, 6 adults and 6 children (and 2 dogs). There was plenty of space both inside the house and in the garden.
