Accessed by only two roads, one of which is the dramatic Bealach na Ba - one of the highest roads in Britain - Applecross (1 mile) is a remote peninsula boasting a unique offering of mountain and coastal attractions and activities. With 40km of marked walks around the peninsula, there are walks to suit all ages and abilities from your doorstep. Stroll along the banks of the River Crossan or wander through the ancient trees of Carnach, the Atlantic Rainforest. Test your head for heights with a rock climbing and abseiling adventure on the Applecross crags, or take to the seas for a paddle around the coastline in a sea kayak.

Forming part of a complex of holiday homes, your rural retreat is approached through the verdant grounds of the estate. Pull into the courtyard, step out of your car and gaze at the imposing Cuillin mountains of Skye and the hills of Raasay that watch over your cottage. Step into your cottage where you will be immediately struck by the light and airy accommodation blending clean lines with traditional touches. Your spacious sitting room has plump sofas inviting you to sink into them and forget about the outside world. In the evening, light the wood burner and let its gentle warmth wash over you. Rustle up family meals in the spacious kitchen where you can plan your day's activities over breakfast at the kitchen table. The family cook will appreciate the well-appointed kitchen that comes equipped with an oil-fired Rayburn, electric cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. You also have a handy cloakroom with WC, ideal for freshening up. Gather for your evening meals in the formal dining room, a spacious room with traditional farmhouse-style dining table. When it's time for bed, two of your cottage's four bedrooms can be found on the ground floor. A generous double bedroom with antique furniture and pretty soft furnishings is a restful space to snuggle up in. There's also a cosy single room with pine bed dressed in crisp linens and ample storage. Both of your ground-floor bedrooms enjoy en-suite shower rooms with WC. Head upstairs to the other two bedrooms, a spacious twin room and a bright and airy triple room with three single beds. These bedrooms share the family bathroom with WC and there is a further separate WC on this level also.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £250 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

The extraordinary Applecross peninsula lies to the west of Wester Ross and is home to abundant wildlife, with opportunities to see otters, deer, golden eagles, seals and dolphins. With a population of fewer than 250 people and only two main roads, this is a tranquil area that's ideal for a peaceful getaway. The area is also rich in Gaelic history and was one of the first parts of Scotland to embrace Christianity. You can visit the picturesque village of Lochcarron (18 miles) which is set on the shore of Loch Carron, or head north to Loch Torridon (15.5 miles) or the isolated Shieldaig Island (21 miles). Loch Torridon is ideal for keen walkers, with opportunities to take on the Liathach massif, Beinn Eighe and the 7-mile coastal hike from Lower Diabaig. You can also charter a yacht to explore Loch Torridon. Local attractions include the fascinating Applecross Heritage Centre (1 mile) and the Applecross Photographic Gallery (2.5 miles). You can also discover the beautiful Rassal Ashwood (14.5 miles) which is the most northerly ash woodland in Britain, and the breathtaking Bealach na Ba Viewpoint (6 miles). Along the coast you can visit some of the crafting outposts including Culduie Camusterrach, Lonbain and Kalnakill (all within 8 miles).

Appreciate the peace and tranquility, though in autumn the Deer rutting season starts so be prepared for noisy deer outside at night and close to the cottage. Dogs are restricted to the kitchen and utility areas, not an issue for us, and dogs loved the heat from the Aga. The rooms are comfortable and clean, with separate lounge and dining room, theRead more kitchen is huge and well appointed. Hide
