Snuggle up together in front of the wood burner to watch a movie in the cosy lounge or enjoy a family BBQ on the patio. Put on your finery and head to Cartmel Racecourse (2 miles) for a fun, adrenaline-filled day at the races or for a more relaxing excursion, pack a picnic and spend the afternoon in the serene grounds of Holker Hall (2 miles). To blow away the cobwebs and breathe in some fresh, sea air, journey to the popular seaside resort of Grange-over-Sands (2 miles).

This large property is decorated in a contemporary style, with crisp, clean walls creating a sense of space and plush soft furnishings making the house feel cosy and inviting. There are two charming social spaces – a lounge and a snug – which is ideal if you have children staying with you who might fancy a little bit of independence in the evenings. During your stay you must take a wander around the pretty, cobbled streets of Cartmel. You’ll discover artisan shops selling local goods as well as some fabulous eateries, all of which serve the village’s world-famous sticky toffee pudding. The majestic Holker Hall and Gardens offers peace and tranquillity in bucket loads. Potter around the 25 acres of formal gardens and woodlands and let the kids burn off steam in the adventure playground before stopping off for a bite to eat in the cafe. Grange-over-Sands isn’t a beach, as such, but it’s still a delightful seaside resort. Children will adore cycling or roller blading along the long promenade that runs alongside the saltmarsh whilst you admire the glorious views across Morecambe Bay, all rounded off with a delicious ice cream from one of the many stalls along the route.

Fabulous house in a great spot. The beds and bedding were very comfy. We loved the big kitchen dinner and two sitting rooms, lots of room for everyone. We would love to stay there again. Definitely value for money.. The basics in the fridge were very useful.

Really lovely property with plenty of room for 8 people. Nice touch with owners leaving bread, milk etc for arrival. Also a good supply of cleaning materials. We were blessed with lovely weather which enabled us to take advantage of walking in the surrounding area. The Pheasant pub is within easy walking distance & serves lovely food. Really enjoyed our stay at Barn Hey. The cottage has recently been renovated so feels very fresh and clean. We were two families of 4 with young kids and it felt plenty spacious for everyone. Bathrooms were lovely and had decent showers. Mike was super, any queries we had were resolved immediately. Very welcoming, friendly and polite too.
