Send the kids upstairs to take their pick from the two twin rooms and get the kettle on in the well-equipped kitchen/diner. You’ll be pleased to note both Tassimo and Nespresso machines on hand for morning coffees at the breakfast bar and plenty of workspace for prepping those hearty family dinners. The lounge has room to spread out a board game from the extensive collection. On warm summer days, throw open the French doors to the enclosed garden where mature trees and bushes provide a lovely private feel. Fire up the BBQ and enjoy a relaxed dinner alfresco with a sun canopy for a little refuge from the midday sunshine. A downstairs wet room is a great addition for larger groups and the utility room with both washing machine and tumble dryer is useful when the weather is less favourable. Up the oak staircase, the four bedrooms have a fresh, unfussy style and crisp white linens that are heaven to sink into after a long day out in the rugged Yorkshire countryside.

The house is just half a mile from the centre of Thirsk which has a good spread of pubs and restaurants as well as a handful of attractions including the popular World of James Herriot museum. Fans of Channel 5’s ‘A Yorkshire Vet’ will be pleased to spot Skeldale Veterinary Centre just 150 metres down the road. Many walks of varying length leave from Thirsk itself – take a look at the maps in the house for inspiration. It’s 7 miles to Kilburn for the family-friendly walk to the famous White Horse, as well as many longer trails on the North York Moors. Younger visitors will love a trip to Monk Park Farm, 2.5 miles from the house, and Thirsk Birds of Prey Centre, 5 miles away is also worth a visit. For thrill-seekers, Lightwater Valley theme park, 15 miles away is a great day out with something for all ages.

Stayed for week in August. Six adults with two children. Lovely time had by all. Very spacious house with super large garden. Great location to visit other cities and towns.

Highly recommended. Comfortable and well equipped house! Some reviews mentioned road noise in the front bedroom but this really was not an issue even at busy times. Great location for exploring wider Yorkshire. So much to do for all ages!

A good house that could be a GREAT house with a little attention to detail made by the owners. A good level of equipment, but 'dated and worn' is an honest description. Nothing will disappoint, but nothing will delight. Main road is busy in early morning - don't expect quiet lay-ins. Lovely large and very well equipped house, fantastic garden and most rooms face the garden with lovely large windows. The front double bedroom face the road which is very noisy at weekends and is a busy road. Lovely ensuite master bedroom and kitchen has everything you would ever need. A great base for your holiday.

Lovely well equipped house in a wonderful location to explore North Yorkshire. Very clean, comfortable beds and absolutely everything you need to cook and cater for yourselves when staying there.

A spacious, comfortable and well equipped house, making a good base for visiting the area. The retractable sun shade is a great feature as the patio is a real sun trap, making the house very warm. Barbeck is on a main road into Thirsk so there is some traffic noise, especially noticeable in the early morning. Thirsk market place is just a short walRead morek away, giving easy access to shops, takeaways and pubs. We really enjoyed our stay. Hide

Excellent accomodation and location. House was very clean and tidy, lovely garden with a daily visit from the local ducks! Lots of information about the amenities in the house, plus brochures about where, and what to do in the Dales and Moors.
