This attractive stone farmhouse in the hamlet of Horsehouse in the Yorkshire Dales stands majestically in its rural setting, offering guests country walks, tranquillity and a wealth of British wildlife to enjoy. Tucked away down an uneven, private farm track, the journey is well worth it as you'll find a traditional farmhouse, perfect for escaping your hectic pace of life and adopting a slower, more relaxing one. Keen ramblers will find plenty of walks from the doorstep, but for those wanting to go further afield, the surrounding area offers a variety of historic landmarks and market towns/villages with independent shops, pubs and tea rooms.

The lounge is at the heart of this traditional home, where guests can gather around the open fire and appreciate the period features such as the exposed beams and stone fireplace, or dive into a book or board game. For those looking for something quieter, there is also a snug with its own wood burner and TV for DVD use only - there should be something for everyone in the DVD collection. There are gorgeous Yorkshire flagstone floors in every room, but fear not as there is underfloor heating and a NEST heating system to keep the rest of the house warm. As you would expect from a farmhouse of this size, the kitchen is delightful; white-washed walls make it feel light and airy, whilst all the mod-cons bring it into the 21st century. A stable door allows you to admire the breathtaking views whilst you prepare food on the oak worktops or the quaint pastry table in the centre of the room. Across the yard, there is a barn containing the washing machine and dryer. The dining room is also spacious making it the ideal setting for sociable mealtimes. Ascending the original, stone staircase, you will arrive at the four bedrooms, which are all simply furnished allowing the traditional furniture to take centre stage. There is a large, king-size master bedroom with en-suite, which includes a luxurious roll-top bath. There is one double bedroom and two twin bedrooms, one of which has a modern en-suite, with the other bedrooms sharing the lovely family bathroom. All of the bedrooms have charming exposed floorboards and amazing views.

Outside, there is plenty of space to enjoy as the house occupies a vast plot. There is also a sheltered area by the kitchen door with patio furniture for al fresco dining against a picturesque backdrop. If the kids still need tiring out at the end of a busy day, send them to the games barn which houses a pool table, a table-tennis table and a ‘Ring the Bull' game. There are barns available for bike storage if required.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park near the hamlet of Horsehouse in beautiful Coverdale. Tucked away down a private track, it's the perfect place to escape and immerse yourself in some of the most stunning scenery in the UK. Walkers will be in heaven here, with so many routes available from the doorstep. There's an olde worlde pub close by to the house across a path and footbridge for that post-walk pint. And for something to eat a dining pub is also within walking distance.

Horsehouse is located on the road from Middleham village in Wensleydale to Kettlewell in Wharfedale. Middleham is one of Yorkshire's loveliest villages. Famous for its castle (once home to Richard III) it's also home to several race-horse trainers; you will see and hear the horses being lead through the village up to the gallops every day. And to top it off there is a lovely collection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops. We love it so much it features in our Top 10 Prettiest Yorkshire Villages.

There are charming tearooms if you fancy a treat at elevenses, and for dinner you can opt for pub grub at the Richard III traditional pub or perhaps some Italian food at the renowned White Swan. There's also a village store and a couple of bric-a-brac shops to mooch around. Just a few miles out of the village is the fantastic attraction The Forbidden Corner. Regularly voted the best family attraction in Yorkshire, it's also well worth a look even if there are no children in your party.

Just a little further on you'll find the charming market town of Leyburn. Leyburn is an archetypical slice of Dales market town life. You'll find traditional shops, pubs and cafes all gathered around the handsome town square, which hosts a busy market every Friday. Leyburn is also home to the biggest auction centre outside of London if you fancy picking up a bargain. The nearby historic town of Richmond is similar in many ways, and has a lovely setting along the River Swale.

There are lots of other pretty villages and stunning natural sights all within close range of Arundel Grange. Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle are just a few miles away and the gorgeous villages of West Burton, Askrigg and Kettlewell are within easy driving distance, so lots of choice for things to do if you want to get out and about. Zarihnas Tea House in Kettlewell and Coverdale Community Pub offer lovely little pit-stops. And when you need to refuel with something more substantial stop at one of the areas many excellent gastro pubs. Our favourites include the Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton and the Blue Lion at East Witton, all within a short drive of the cottage.

Fabulous old farmhouse with all the character you'd expect - incredibly tasteful inside. Very glad to have a proper 4x4 to get up driveway though! So quiet and peaceful - perfect for totally away from it all week.

Lovely, large, comfortable house with great views. A very good base for walking in the Dales but so nice that it would also be good just to hole up here and stay put. Dog friendly.

We had the most idyllic week at Arundel Grange. The house is welcoming and comfortable and at the end of a track off an already very quiet road. Perfect place to relax as a family and explore the Dales.

This was exactly what we wanted.... in the middle of nowhere, no TV and a time for us to sit as a family and talk, have fun and play games to bring in the new year!

Some big positives and a few negatives. Positives are the comfy beds, well-equipped kitchen and the (albeit cold even in August) games barn. Main negatives are the limited and generally uncomfortable seating in the main lounge, the lack of seating in the snug, and the generally old fashioned decor. With a bit of money spent / modernisation this plaRead morece could be amazing. Hide
