Stay at this gorgeous Lakeland stone property and spend quality time with family or friends in a superb Ambleside setting. It's tucked away in a quiet courtyard just off the main thoroughfare, right at the heart of this ever-popular Lake District village, with shops, restaurants, bars, a cinema, tennis courts, mini golf and an indoor climbing wall all within 500 metres. You'll find an eclectic mix of cafes and eateries to suit every taste, while walkers and cyclists can set off straight from the doorstep onto a network of scenic routes. Nature lovers can visit Stock Ghyll Force waterfall or wander through the colourful woodland of National Trust Stagshaw Gardens (both around 1 mile). The charming village of Hawkshead (5 miles) is perfect for gentle strolls with its whitewashed cottages, cobbled streets and ginnels.

This welcoming home provides thoughtfully arranged accommodation across three floors, starting on the ground floor, which has a twin bedroom, a double bedroom and a shower room (accessed via a few steps). You'll probably spend most of your time in the first-floor lounge, a super-cosy space with deep, comfortable seating gathered around a Victorian range with a large open fire. You'll have a TV/DVD and iPod docking station for keeping everybody entertained. The kitchen/dining room has a galley-style kitchen with a large range cooker, along with a generous dining table seating eight. The first floor also has a double bedroom and a family bathroom with bath and separate shower, while up on the second floor, you'll have a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room. Down in the basement, the spacious sauna (with space for up to eight guests) is a lovely place to unwind after outdoor adventures. There is also a purpose-built drying room large enough for eight people's waterproofs

Outside, relax with fellow guests on your furnished private patio. The garage is handy for storing bikes, canoes and outdoor gear, and gives access to the handy boot and drying area for any muddy kit. Private parking is available for two cars via a narrow alley (2.45 metres), with one space in the garage and one outside (the garage is 2.10 metres by 5.40 metres).

One of the highlights was definitely the sauna, which provided a perfect way to unwind after a day of hiking. A special touch was the complimentary Prosecco waiting for us upon arrival, adding a lovely welcome to our stay. However, there are a couple of areas that could use improvement: the absence of toiletries was a minor inconvenience, and a few finishing details such as condiments would would have been appreciated. While the check-in and check-out times are on the later and earlier side respectively, it didn't detract significantly from our overall experience. We would stay here again! Hide
