A beautifully finished Lincolnshire cottage, this enticing retreat blends comfort and character. Situated in Coningsby, which has a selection of shops and eateries, the four-bedroom retreat sleeps eight guests, making it ideal for an extended family holiday or a break for a large group. Nestled between the scenic Lincolnshire Wolds and the picturesque Fens, 8 miles from Horncastle, it is ideally located for anyone wishing to get out and about by bicycle or on foot. The National Trust’s 15th-century, red-brick Tattershall Castle, with its double moat and picturesque grounds, is just 1 mile from the cottage. Younger members of your party will adore a day out at the colourful Wolds Wildlife Park, 9 miles away. Plan a trip to historic Horncastle to potter in the shops selling antiques and vintage items, and browse the market stalls. Just 4.3 miles away you can spend the day relaxing in Woodhall Spa. For Nature lovers RSPB Freiston Shore Nature Reserve is 17.2 miles away where you can explore the wilderness of The Wash, with the sights and sounds of rich saltmarsh. Follow the trails and spot waders, ducks and geese, while birds of prey circle above. Or why not venture 22.5 miles into Lincoln to see the cathedral, castle and Roman ruins.

Make your way into the cottage via the gated entrance and courtyard and step inside under the porch. Head straight into the friendly kitchen/diner to unpack any tasty Lincolnshire provisions you have bought and put the kettle on for a cup of tea. This generous space has been fitted out with everything you will need to help you cater for your party with ease. There is also a table to gather around for your lively meals. Amble on through to the lounge with its flagstone floor and gorgeous, honey-coloured beams. Settle in here on the soft seating to rest and recuperate in front of the Smart TV after your busy day, or take yourself off to the tranquil reading corner with your book. Switch on the wood-burner-effect electric fire in the brick chimney breast on chilly days. The light-filled conservatory features another TV as well as plump leather seating to sink back into. Open the doors to the garden in here on warm days. There is also a handy family shower room with a WC downstairs. As the sun goes down on each day away, head upstairs to the bedrooms. These include a king-size, with an en-suite shower room, a double and two twins. The family bathroom, which offers both a shower and a bath, is also here.

The enchanting garden will be at the heart of your holiday fun as you launch out onto the River Bain in your kayak or canoe, or cast out your fishing rod. Challenge each other to table tennis in the games room or lounge in the hot tub on the patio, where there is also furniture for al fresco holiday meals. Stoke up the fire pit and sit beside it together, chatting long into the evening. Private parking is available for three cars.

Loved the area with nearby Woodall Spa having a wonderful golf course and quaint independent shops. Lovely walking in the Wolds too. Would recommend the Leagate Inn which is very dog friendly. Food here was excellent and service was great too. Unfortunately, the cottage was not ready for our 4pm check in time as it had not been serviced followingRead more previous guests checking out several days before our arrival. Holiday Cottages staff were very helpful in trying to sort this out when I was unable to get hold of the owner. Apparently, he had forgotten we were coming! We eventually got in at 6.30pm which meant no opportunity to unpack and shower before making our dinner reservation at 7pm. The property is a great size for a larger party with plenty of space to all eat together and sit in the evenings however, there are lots of things that need attention (very loose tap in kitchen, conservatory rug and doors dirty, broken blinds, black mould in the showers, no door on the ensuite bathroom, broken curtain pole in main bedroom which could be quire dangerous if it fell on a child, single bed mattresses very lumpy (but two double bedrooms were very comfortable), radiator not working in one bedroom, no information pack or check out instructions provided). Whilst we appreciated the money paid towards our Friday evening meal as compensation for the late check in, overall, we were very disappointed with the cottage considering this is listed as four star and we felt it was poor value for money. Such a shame as with some care and attention it could be really lovely but from conversations with the owner it seems he does not currently have the time to service and maintain this property to a good standard. Excellent cottage for a family gathering, good location, Tony (the host) was very welcoming and knowledgeable of the area with good suggestions of things to do and places to visit in the area. Hot tub is a great touch, table tennis and pool table a great way to pass some down time.

Dovedale cottage was perfect for our multi generational short break - from the hot tub to the table tennis and pool tables there was something to keep everybody entertained. Ambient lighting and heating on arrival, as well as a lovely welcome basket of specially selected treats made us feel at home straight away. The cottage was ideally situated Read morefor us to catch up with our Lincolnshire based family, and visit some RAF bases where my Father-in law had trained and been posted many years ago. It was also within easy travelling distance from Lincoln, where we walked up Steep Hill to visit the Cathedral. The cottage is spacious but, at the same time, remains cosy and warm. We would definitely look to rebook when we next return to the area. Thank you Tony for your tips and suggestions on the local area. Hide

We enjoyed our stay at Dovedale Cottage, the house was welcoming and plenty big enough for 8 people with multiple seating areas and facilities to keep all ages entertained. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable, and the kitchen / dining area was great for large groups. What we found appealing was the location, surround by beautiful countRead moreryside, the wonderful town of Woodhall Spa just a 10 minute drive and under an hour to the coast. Whilst the property and furniture was a little dated, this did not hinder our stay with a traditional cottage feel. Hide
