Step straight out from the house to follow walks beside the water and through the forest. Find routes that are idyllic for those who also enjoy birdwatching and mountain biking and that vary in length. Try a short, circular walk of 1.5 miles to Bohally Wood and back, or hike 11 miles all the way to Faskally Forest.
Venture 6.5 miles from your base, alongside Loch Tummel to reach the Queen’s View, one of Scotland’s best-known viewpoints. Here there are panoramic views out west towards the peaks of Schiehallion and across Rannoch Moor, as well as out over serene Loch Tummel. Find a tea room and gift shop here, as well as lots of information on walks and trails in the area.
Kinloch Rannoch, at the eastern tip of picturesque Loch Rannoch, is 6 miles away and a great place to pause for refreshment if you decide to climb Schiehallion or walk through the Black Wood of Rannoch. Kenmore is 11.5 miles away and sits on the banks of Loch Tay. Hire a day boat here and take yourselves out on the water to enjoy the scenery or to fish.
Head into vibrant Pitlochry to dine out and browse in the shops. The small market town of Aberfeldy, 13.5 miles away, is also a colourful destination and known for its distillery where you can see how Scottish whisky is made.
