Enjoy a stay in the heart of the Northumberland National Park with the English and Scottish border on your very doorstep, before making yourself at home in this splendid period property. Sleeping ten and offering seemingly endless surrounding countryside views, the house is spot on for an extended family reunion, with both outdoor activities and must-see tourist attractions within close reach.

Retaining traditional elements throughout and thoughtfully decorated in a classic British style, you'll receive constant reminders that you're on a country break. Enter into the home and head for the kitchen, which will no doubt be the loving hub of your house throughout the stay. The authentic farmhouse AGA will warm the room from within and offer an exciting new way of cooking up a family meal, while a spacious central island is the perfect spot to grab a quick snack or cup of coffee. For more celebratory meals, make use of the independent dining room, which has space for all to sit and eat in front of a wood burner. The cosy atmosphere continues into the lounge areas, where you'll find another wood burner amongst a TV and DVD player and a double sofa bed. You've also got a handy boot room on this floor, so you don't have to worry about traipsing those muddy boots through the house. All four of the bedrooms can be found upstairs; they are decorated beautifully and offer remarkable views over either the reservoir or the forest.

Once you've made use of the two large terraced areas, be sure to head through the rear field and straight onto the Pennine Way, a huge 267-mile walk stretching across the north of England. Whilst you may not want to challenge the family to that, you can make use of the nearby countryside and enjoy some of the wonderful views - you are in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty after all. The Northumberland National Park that surrounds you is, in fact, a designated Dark Sky Park, meaning that on a clear night the stars shine brightly in the sky, so be sure to head out after dark for a spot of stargazing. Once you've explored every nook and cranny of the surrounding countryside then take a day out to the Cragside National Park (29 miles) to experience an eccentric Victorian mansion frozen in time. The previous home of the Victorian inventor Lord Armstrong, the house was the first ever to be powered by hydroelectric and now displays some of the wondrous gadgets that used to run this home.

Excellent country house in a great location. Very relaxing week exploring the local area. So many birds singing. There are barn owls nesting in the barn opposite. We also saw puffins flying over the reservoir. All in all, a fantastic holiday was had by all
