Property code: LCC33

Delightful period cottage sleeping eight guests, located in Beatrix Potter’s home village of Near Sawrey in the beautiful Lake District, just two miles from the shores of Lake Windermere.

This charming property in the picturesque village of Near Sawrey occupies a desirable location with the National Trust's Hill Top, once home to the Lake District's most famous and best-loved daughters, Beatrix Potter, within 200 metres and a village pub across the road. Surrounded by rolling hills, narrow lanes and stone walls, it is the ideal country retreat for family gatherings/reunions, with accommodation for eight people over four bedrooms. Sympathetically restored, the blend of traditional and contemporary furniture and décor creates an elegant country-cottage feel throughout with a few touches of grandeur. The games room with a console and DVD player allows younger guests their own space to relax. Near Sawrey is well-positioned within the Lake District National Park as it's close to many of the popular lakes, attractions and towns.

In Beatrix Potter's ‘The Tale of Ginger and Pickles', this former shop is described as ‘a little small shop just the right size for dolls', but this property is deceptively spacious. As you enter through the front door, you'll find yourself in the large, open-plan lounge/diner, with light flooding through the bay windows. Original features such as the fireplace and beams add character, whilst the wood burner will keep you warm on chilly evenings. The well-equipped kitchen's light tones and warm woods create a homely feel. A utility room and shower room complete the ground floor. On the first floor there are three exquisitely decorated bedrooms with traditional-style furniture (two doubles and a twin) and a family bathroom. The final bedroom is on the third floor with an en-suite shower room; sloping ceilings mean there is restricted height in places.

Outside, the front garden gives you somewhere to watch the world go by. To the rear, the patio area with seating and a BBQ is a space for socialising. There's off-road parking for two cars.

Whether you like peaceful strolls, arduous hikes or challenging cycle rides, the opportunities are endless with plenty of these activities on your doorstep. You can catch a boat across to Bowness-on Windermere: a popular town with a range of independent shops/eateries and home to Beatrix Potter World, suitable for those both young and old. Other popular towns nearby are Grasmere, the home of tasty gingerbread and Wordsworth's grave (12.5 miles), and Ambleside (7.5 miles), where you can browse the outdoors shops and enjoy lunch in one of the many cafes. For something different, why not visit the National Trust's Wray Castle which has something for all ages.

This is a lovely cottage and much larger than initially expected. The kitchen was very well equipped even for a professional chef like me. The two sitting rooms although next door to each other provided very separate and noise resistant space for different groups. Altogether a great holiday let and one we will most definitely return to.

We enjoyed a lovely week at the beginning of October. We were a group of 6 Adults & 2 dogs & this cottage had plenty of space & everything we needed to make our stay extremely comfortable. The wine, chutney & jam were a lovely touch.

The cottage is very quaint and we were surprised it had 4 bedrooms. A great aspect is the location - there is a walk up to Claife Heights right outside the door - so great for dogs and general walking. There is a lovely tarn about 30 mins away. It is opposite a pub which serves surprisingly good food as well as beer. It is a couple of miles walk toRead more Hawkshead and another 5ish to Coniston. Two other pubs are in easy reach. So perfect location for walking followed by a cheeky beer. Hide
