Arrive at Wonwood House and you will never want to leave! With six acres of glorious, quintessentially English grounds, a magnificent heated outdoor pool, a children's play area, orchard, paddock and summer house, Wonwood is a rare find.
The house itself is very special too – a handsome, detached country residence, decorated and furnished with style and flair. It was originally a Victorian farmhouse built in the Georgian style, and has large, rooms, ornate ceilings/chandeliers, comfortable sofas and elegant bedrooms. It sleeps 12, with two additional Z-beds for children/teenagers. You can also book the Coach House, within the grounds, which sleep 3.
The house is approached by a long private drive. It's close to the Tamar valley (a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), the Cornish border and a short drive from Dartmoor and the north coast beaches. Altogether it is ideal for large family gatherings and big group holidays.
Location
Surrounded by its own grounds, four miles from Tavistock and about four hours' drive from London. There are pubs at Lamerton and Horsebridge (both approximately 1.5 miles); a garage shop half a mile; large supermarkets nearby and excellent restaurants locally. Beaches are 25 miles away.
Accommodation
Wonwood House gives you a taste of living in bygone, more elegant times. It's wonderfully warm in winter and light and airy in summer.
Downstairs rooms include a beautiful carpeted drawing room, divided into two areas by an arch, with two open fireplaces, sink-into sofas and a piano. A small conservatory to the side is a sunny place to read, snooze and look out on the garden. There's also a study with a built-in desk, bookcases and broadband point; a dining room with an oak floor and extending table for 14; and a Snug TV area which full Bose surround sound system, basic Sky package etc.
The large farmhouse-style kitchen has a table for 8, a fine Aga with triple ovens, a twin gas hob and electric oven. It's exceedingly well geared up to large groups, with two larder fridges, a double sink and walk-in larder. Next door is a useful utility/boot room, with full laundry facilities.
From the main hallway, stairs lead to a sunny atrium decorated with attractive wall murals and on to a second landing. The seven bedrooms are immaculately and tastefully decorated, with emphasis on good quality linens and furniture, and plenty of attention to detail.
The long private drive encircles the house and there are wide lawns at the front and to one side, with steps down to a lower lawn and the swimming pool. The pool is 36 feet long, 6 foot deep at one end, and has an electric, lockable cover. Note that children will need supervision here at all times. It is available from mid May to early September, and is heated by a 'heat exchange' system, which is dependent on the outside air temperature. It sucks in warm air, mixes it with the water and puts it back into the pool.

£3,250 per week for 12 people (+ 2 extra to sleep on floor mattress and inflatable bed)
