Property description

The Hamptons is a New England-style, clapboard seaside house, two minutes’ walk from the beach, and only an hour and a half from London. It became newly available for rental in June 2009.

The house is beautifully refurbished in classic beach style, with driftwood floors, seaside colours and a clubby, Ralph Lauren atmosphere. It is fully equipped for 12, with beach games, an outdoor hot tub, beach games, films and a large kitchen/breakfast room. There are five double ensuite bedrooms, plus a generous double futon sofabed in the TV room. It stands on a private seaside estate, newly refurbished, beachside property, two minutes’ walk from the sea. There is an outdoor hot tub.

There is a back and front area for children to play in, with a French and gate blocking the road. The house is equipped with children’s games, beach toys, books and films.

Location

Situated on the seaside estate of Angmering-on-Sea, which lies between Littlehampton and Worth on the West Sussex coast. Two minutes’ walk to the beach and various coastal walks. The village of Angmering-on-Sea is also 2 minutes away with full facilities. Brighton is 15 miles away; London 90 minutes by train. Online supermarket deliveries can be arranged.

Station: Angmering station (2 miles; direct to London and south coast).

Accommodation

The Hamptons is designed for twelve people, and works beautifully as such. The furniture, furnishings and artefacts are interior-designed to a very high standard, with all the comforts of home.

The open plan dining room has a specially-commissioned, hand-crafted Tiger oak table and chairs, and plenty of seating for everyone. Guests can also eat in the large kitchen/breakfast room, also decorated in true classical beachside style, overlooking the back garden. It has a wooden table, a range cooker with double oven, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge, freezer and microwave.

In addition there is a drawing room, a family TV/playroom, a conservatory and an open-plan study area. Outside there’s ample space for eating and relaxing, and a hot tub for 6-7 people.

The five double bedrooms all have an ensuite bathroom, a TV, DVD player and iPod dock. There’s an additional double futon sofa bed in the TV/play room, and a cloakroom on the ground floor.

Facilities

The house comes with a computer and printer with broadband and also has WiFi. The desk in the family area is suitable for up to five children to work on.

The Hamptons can be hired on a self-catering or catered basis. Cleaners, cooks, chefs, butlers, waiting staff etc can all be recommended and arranged prior to your stay.

You can bring one well-behaved dog, provided it remains downstairs and doesn’t lie on the furniture. The boot roomis suitable for a dog to sleep in.

Other facilities include:

Area

The village of Angmering-on-Sea is less than five minutes’ walk, and has almost everything you could need – a beach kiosk by the sailing club, three pubs, restaurants, fish and chip shop, surfers’ continental café, specialist wine merchant, dentist, hairdresser, beautician and physiotherapist.

There's also that all-important village shop, which is open 8am-8pm and sells virtually everything (newspapers, wine, veg, frozen food, beach toys, charcoal, ice creams …). Half a mile further on, there are more shops including a Sainsbury’s and a quality butcher with all you need for a beach barbecue.

For keen racers, Goodwood Racecourse is 30 minutes away.

There are opportunities for sailing, riding, cycling, and golf all within the local area. Angmering estate itself is leafy and delightful for bike-riding.

The beach is pebbly when the tide is up, and sandy when the tide is out. It is one of the cleanest beaches in the country, and child-friendly.
