Property description
Stoneview is a former 16th century farm in a fabulously quiet, less touristy corner of Cumbria, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. Surrounded by wide open skies and fells, it is a lovely, contemporary house run by David and Alison Roper. They have also set up Stone Trail Holidays, offering walking (from the door), riding and cycling holidays. So you can escape with your group here and enjoy a relaxing big venue, the freshest of air plus an outdoor activity arranged to suit you. Stoneview is perfect for corporate groups, family holidays, hen/stag parties or for celebrating a special occasion.
Alison & David look after one group at a time and therefore give you undivided attention. The in-house activities are led by qualified staff and are tailored to suit ability and include a unique insight into the history and geological background of their environment. Since it’s often difficult to plan group days that have something for everyone, they also offer additional activities such as golf, fishing, pottery and even a Cumbrian Cookery experience. Alternatively you can just come here for a relaxing holiday and do your own thing completely!
The house sleeps 14 altogether, and comprises a two-storey farmhouse sleeping eight, and two apartments in the courtyard, one above the other. One sleeps two, and the other four. Each house has its own self-catering kitchen, but there’s a table seating 14 in the farmhouse whenever your party wishes to eat together.
After a fabulous day outdoors you can cook for yourselves, or wander down to the local inn, ten minutes’ walk away, which serves good ales and evening meals. Back at Stoneview, kick off your shoes and relax with books or films from the farm’s library in front of the log burners. Bliss!
Location
A spectacular setting on the fellside, quiet and peaceful. The farm has 40 acres with direct fellside access onto a unique limestone pavement and Wild Boar Fell. It’s two miles to the village of Ravenstonedale which has two pubs and a shop; six miles to Kirkby Stephen for a big supermarket and general shopping.
Airport: Manchester (100 miles); Newcastle (same)
Station: Kirkby Stephen or Oxenholme (west coast)
Accommodation
The main farmhouse is a large, two-storey house with open eaves and views over the fells. An extensive restoration project has brought back all the stone barns on the farm. Traditional building methods have been employed to retain the historic and architectural value of the buildings, with exposed woodwork and exceptional stonework.
There are a total of five bedrooms and six bathrooms. The bedrooms, all ensuite, are a stylish mixture of contemporary décor and original features. There are also a couple of double sofabeds. The bathrooms are fitted with power showers, soaps, towels and white dressing robes, and the beds are made up with crisp white linen.
Each kitchen is well fitted with an oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge etc.
Evening meals can be provided by arrangement.
The dining room can also be used for private meetings.
Facilities
Stone Trail Holidays offers horseriding/pony trekking for all abilities on site, and mountain bike hire. Free route maps are provided in the map/library room for use by guests, providing information on the area and on the extensive network of paths and trails leading from the door. The owners are experienced walkers, cyclists and horse riders and are on hand to offer expert guidance and advice on route planning and the best places to roam.
The TVs in each house have Freeview and DVD players.
Stoneview has a CD player. The map room houses a library of books, magazines, DVDs, games etc. for guests' use.
