Property description
This is a Victorian villa on the cliff overlooking Swanage Bay, next to Burlington Chine, with views of the Isle of Wight. Although run as a B&B throughout the high season summer months, this deceptively large house is available for a self-catering group to take over for themselves throughout the shoulder and winter months, at very reasonable prices. The house has glorious sea views, warm and comfortable en-suite bedrooms, a big kitchen and dining room and a garden. And if you don’t feel like cooking for yourselves, catering can easily be arranged.
Bella Vista is next to a safe sandy beach and close to a huge range of family attractions (see below).
Location
A 10-15 minute walk from the centre of Swanage, on a residential road next to the Grand Hotel. There is a corner shop five minutes’ walk away, and a pub at the bottom of the road. There are bars and dining in the Grand and Pines Hotels on the same road, and a good restaurant on the beach five minutes away.

The kitchen is well equipped, and there’s a laundry room with two washing machines and two dryers.
There are 7 en-suite bedrooms altogether, one of which has an attached room sleeping two, another room sleeps four, and two other rooms sleep three. Some rooms have king size beds and four have sea views. You’ll find an additional bathroom on the ground floor.
The dining room seats 20 and overlooks the garden and the sea, so you can watch the activity on the water as you dine.
You can relax in the living room, which has comfy armchairs and views over the water. There are books in the small library, and a DVD player and Freeview. The large hall is a great place for young children to play.
Facilities
All bedrooms have a digital TV, radio and cotton bedlinen and towels.
The lovely garden has a patio, lawns and decking overlooking the sea. There is garden furniture and a barbecue.
Pets are welcome, subject to permission.
Area
Swanage is situated on the Isle of Purbeck, an area of outstanding natural beauty in south east Dorset. The wonderful Purbeck Hills are ever present in the views from Swanage.
Bella Vista is only a short stroll from the nicest beach in Swanage, a really traditional English seaside resort, which has Punch and Judy shows on the beach and glorious sands.
The magnificent coastline between Old Harry Rocks, just north of Swanage, and Orcombe Point in Devon is known as The Jurassic Coast, and is now a World Heritage Site.
You can walk along South-West Coast Path (which passes the front door of the house) to Old Harry Rocks and take in the stunning views from Ballard Down. Or enjoy one of the finest walks in the country from Swanage to Corfe Castle across Nine Barrow Down, returning by steam train.
Other attractions include the stone village of Corfe Castle, Durlston Country Park (nature trails and remarkable cliffs), the recently restored Swanage Pier; a memorable trip to the Isle of Wight on the Paddle Steamer Waverley; Monkey World near Wool; the Tank Museum at Bovington; Lulworth Castle and Cove; and two markets (Tuesday in Swanage, Thursday in Wareham).
The National Trust owns three properties in the area: Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour, Corfe Castle, and Kingston Lacy. The Trust also owns and manages large areas of the coast and countryside in the Isle of Purbeck, including Studland Beach.
There are many golf courses in the area – the owners recommend Isle of Purbeck for the views, and also enjoy playing at Parkstone and Broadstone.
