Accommodation
There are various large rooms where you can all relax together, including the morning room, drawing room, breakfast room and the study/library. The morning room is particularly impressive, a light room with double aspect windows overlooking the parterre garden and the countryside beyond. The study/library is a quieter, more cosy room for those times when you need a break from group activity. The shelves are stocked with interesting books and magazines. There is also unlimited wireless broadband access available throughout most of the house.
The dining room is furnished with Chinese Chippendale chairs and striking yellow walls. It’s a warm and cheerful room, the perfect place for an intimate dinner together.
There are four double bedrooms in the main house, and two doubles in the cottage wing plus a single bedroom/dressing room adjacent to the master bedroom. All the rooms are individually named and strikingly decorated. Goldesbrough is the master, with a 5/6” four poster bed. Three of the four bathrooms have lockable doors which make them en suite if required.
Facilities
Traditional meets contemporary in the kitchen, which has a wonderfully warm Aga, a steam oven, a dishwasher, a fridge/freezer with an ice-making compartment and a chilled water dispenser. A large terrace is accessible from the kitchen, and you can happily cook whilst keeping a watchful eye on young children as they play on the lawns.
There are televisions throughout, a DVD player and satellite TV and a selection of films provided. If you don’t fancy watching, just slip into the library away from it all.
Other facilities include gas central heating, a cot and high chair, an outdoor hot tub, a utility room in the cellar, an outside dining table and seating, and ample parking.
There is a medieval moat island, which is believed to have been the site of the first rectory many centuries before, and the moat would have formed part of its defensive fortifications. Please note that young children will therefore need supervision in the garden. There is also a formal parterre garden overlooked by many of the rooms.
Bicycles and narrow boats are available for hire from the local canal shop approximately 2 miles away and there will be a food hamper to welcome you.
Pets are welcome by prior arrangement.
The house lends itself to managerial conference/brain storming sessions away from the madding crowds and is easily accessed from the M5.
Area
Berkeley Vale and the Cotswolds lie on the doorstep of Rectory Park. Your first visit will probably be to the famous Slimbridge Wetlands and Wildfowl Trust, which is only a mile away. This internationally renowned reserve is the headquarters of the World Wildlife Trust and was the realisation of Sir Peter Scott's vision in 1946 when he discovered how many thousands of geese depended on the shores of the Severn Estuary for their survival and well-being.
Canal boats are available to hire within walking distance. There are also numerous historic houses and gardens open to visitors in the area, including Berkeley Castle, Westonbirt National Arboretum, Owlpen Manor and Westbury Court Garden.
For shops, museums, galleries and other cultural distractions, the cities of Gloucester, Bath and Bristol are easy days out from the house.
