Property description
An extremely comfortable, large, self-catering modern house with a treat of a heated swimming pool and jacuzzi spa, a games room with a pool table, golf courses nearby, and ample room for a big group of up to 20. The gardens are delightful and secluded, with a stream and seating areas. The city of Lincoln is four miles away, there are various old churches and pretty villages to visit, and several pubs close by serving meals for those days when you don’t feel like cooking.
Athina is ideal for big group get-togethers, whether for a holiday, Halloween, a hen/stag party or Christmas. The owners will help with catering if you wish – all you have to do is ask and they will do their best to arrange things.
Location
In the village of Welton, in the heart of Lincolnshire countryside, on the edge of the Wolds and four miles from the historic cathedral city of Lincoln.
Accommodation
Athina comfortably sleeps 20 in ten bedrooms – three doubles, five twins, one triple and one single. The Master Bedroom is notable for its large double bed and sunken ensuite bath. The rooms are very comfortable, with modern, often white furnishings, fitted wardrobes, recessed bedside lights and floral coverlets on the beds.
Communal rooms include the large sitting room with relaxing sofas, an open gas fire, digital TV, DVD player, video player and music centre. It overlooks the main garden. A second lounge on the first floor has doors leading to a balcony overlooking the garden.
The main kitchen is wooden floored and white, beautifully fitted out with everything you’ll need for your stay, including place settings for 24. There’s also a useful second kitchen on the first floor, with hob, fridge, microwave etc. In the lobby and utility room there is a washing machine, tumble drier and dishwasher.
Your group can dine together in the dining room, off the main hallway, where there’s a long table and wooden chairs seating 20.
Facilities
A big group has lots to play with here! Besides the indoor heated pool and jacuzzi, there’s a large TV lounge, and a games room with a full-size pool table, table tennis, a selection of board games, a dartboard, computer, toys, books and various games and puzzles. The gardens are large and relaxing.
The pool is big enough for decent laps (around 30 x 20 feet) and kidney-shaped with a big tiled area beside it and sliding doors leading out to the gardens. It has its own bar and changing room, WC and shower. Leading from the pool area is the Spa Room where up to six can soak in the jacuzzi. Towels can be hired at extra cost.
Pets are not encouraged, and only allowed by special prior arrangement. No smoking is permitted inside the house.
Area
There are lots of old churches and tourist attractions around Welton, including the historic city of Lincoln with its famous cathedral and its Christmas market. It’s an easy drive to Louth and Gainsborough, the latter famously associated with George Elliot and her book “Mill on the Floss”. There is an old English pub within walking distance of Athina, with a friendly atmosphere and excellent pub food. You’ll find plenty of other olde worlde pubs in the surrounding villages, many serving such Lincolnshire specialities as sausages and pork pies.
