Trefreock Farmhouse, Port Isaac

St Endellion, Port Isaac, Cornwall, England

The scenery in this part of North Cornwall is amongst the most rugged and breathtaking in the county. Here you'll find Trefreock Farmhouse, an exceptionally attractive, Grade II listed, seven-bedroomed Georgian farmhouse. The house dates from the 1840s and is set in its own grounds of approximately 1.5 acres. It is situated down a farm lane with uninterrupted views over open countryside to the sea, linked by numerous footpaths to the South West Coastal Path and gorgeous beaches.

This is a remarkably spacious house, ideal for families. It has a full games room, a badminton lawn that doubles as a small football pitch and, for older children, a pond with its own rowing boat. Inside, it easily sleeps 14 and is fully renovated with new central heating and bathrooms, original flagstone floors, and a quintessential farmhouse kitchen. It's just the place for large group family gatherings and holidays – walking, birdwatching, golfing, surfing or simply relaxing.

A large family farmhouse with wonderful old slate and limestone floors and large sash windows. The house has a tremendous feeling of space and is simply and beautifully decorated with traditional, lime-based paints.

On the ground floor there is a large, well-equipped farmhouse kitchen with an Aga and a table seating up to 14. There is an equally generous sitting room with a log burner and views over the garden, the pond and the sea beyond. The large hall leads off to two further family rooms - a games room with table tennis, darts and table football; and a playroom/TV room which also has a wood burner.

Additional rooms on this floor include a cloakroom and utility room, and access to a downstairs wet room, “The Cellar”. The Cellar can also be accessed from the terrace, making it an ideal facility for returning cold and wet surfers or walkers! It is equipped with two power showers, a changing area, WC and laundry facilities.

On the first floor there are five large bedrooms (doubles or zip-and-link twins), one with ensuite facilities. A staircase leads to two further large twin 'attic' rooms which have wonderful sea views. There are five bath/shower rooms altogether.

Within one of Cornwall's most popular coastal areas, between Port Isaac Bay and Port Quin Bay. The house is set in an elevated position with wonderful views over open countryside to the Atlantic. It is a 15 minute walk to the historic fishing village of Port Isaac (shops, pubs, restaurants). The nearest pub/restaurant/hotel is a five minute walk across a field. Footpaths provide access to the SW Coastal Path, and lead to sandy beaches, quiet coves, rocks from which to fish and superb headland scenery and clifftop walks.

Nearest airports: Newquay or Exeter (1-1.5 hrs)

Nearest station: Bodmin (40 mins)

This is an excellent base for exploring the North Cornish coast, being close to some of Cornwall's best swimming and surfing beaches, as well as the holiday resorts of Rock, Polzeath and Port Isaac.

Port Isaac, for example, five minutes away is a delightful fishing village with fish sellers, shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. It is now most famous for being the setting for the Doc Martin TV series and locally for its sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends.

Port Quin (5 mins) is the place to try kayaking, fishing or coast steering. Rock and the Camel Estuary have fabulous sailing and water sports facilities. There's golf at St Enodoc or Roserrow, and numerous beaches for swimming, rock pooling and walking, most notably Polzeath and Daymer Bay.

Other attractions include Padstow for shops and Rick Stein's fresh fish restaurants; Bodmin Moor for walking and horse riding; Tintagel; The Eden Project (25 miles); and a number of famous West Country gardens including the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Lanhydrock.
