In 2010, Jurston Barn was a traditional, listed 17th-century stone and brick cob barn, built for one of the prosperous farms on this side of Wellington in Somerset. Today it has been lovingly turned into a luxurious holiday house that sleeps 12, retaining charming original features.
With 6 en-suite bedrooms and exclusive use of its own indoor pool and outdoor sunken hot-tub, this property is perfect for any celebration or family holiday.
Graded in January 2012 by Visit Britain and awarded a 5 STAR GOLD AWARD.
Huge double doors, which used to allow in whole hayricks, are now glassed and help form a superb glass-fronted entrance. Inside, the glass roofed dining area has a table that seats up to 14. Kitchen units house dishwashers, microwave, larder and large kitchen range cooker. The kitchen is handmade by Mike Taylor Designers of Knightsbridge.
A staircase from the dining area leads upstairs to three bedrooms all with en-suites, 2 showers and 1 with a bath and over head shower. All have zip and link beds so can be doubles or twins. A large living area comes off the dining area and leads through to the 3 downstairs en-suite bedrooms, with 2 wet rooms and 1 with a bath and overhead shower. You also have the large games room where another staircase leads to a snug area on a mezzanine floor. This games room includes a pool table and table football at one end and snuggly sofas around the stylish woodburner at the other.
Jurston Barn may be nearly 400 years old but to stay here is to take advantage of every comfort the modern world can offer. The accommodation itself is large, attractive, well-equipped and spacious with stone floors and underfloor heating throughout the ground floor, with central heating upstairs. There are televisions in all bedrooms with larger screens in the living room and the games room. The house has Sky, WiFi, and an iDock.
Between the pool and the house is lawn, with shrub beds and a wooded area. It includes a children's play area with swings, slide, trampoline and climbing frame.
There is a barbecue set up with table and chairs. Just off the kitchen you will find a WC/utility room with the pool building beyond where there is a 10m x 5m pool with a constant depth of 4ft. Just outside the pool is the wonderful sunken hot tub.
There are local pubs within walking distance. The Half Moon in Clayhidon, the Merry Harriers on the Blackdown Hills, The Martlett at Langford Budville and the Globe at Appley are all within a short drive. Jurston Barn is also within walking distance of the pretty market town of Wellington, with its shops including proper butcher, baker, grocer, award-winning fishmonger, and even Waitrose.
This part of England is built for holidaymakers with a range of day trips on your doorstep. There is great walking on local hills, and, further afield, on Exmoor and Dartmoor. The house is equidistant from the two coasts of Somerset and Devon, which are 20 miles in each direction. Juston Barn is built for travel convenience. Despite the quiet countryside that surrounds you, the house is just five minutes from junction 26 of the M5 motorway. It has parking for six cars.
