Caron Cooper’s quintessential Cotswold stone farmhouse has featured in many interiors magazines and in her own BBC cookery series. The 18th century farmhouse and its small collection of outbuildings are now available for exclusive hire by a large group of friends, family or conference delegates. And the location is second to none, with some of the great icons of British tourism on the doorstep – the Cotswolds, Bath and Bristol.
The first thing you’ll notice is the décor, as the house is furnished throughout with French brocante, English chintz and antique textiles, many gleaned from Caron’s former shop in Bath or her ongoing shop in London’s Portobello (in fact, various items are for sale).
The main farmhouse sleeps six, while the other three buildings (The Stables, The Dovecote and The Garden House) sleep six, four and six respectively. In total, therefore, the house sleeps up to 22. Your group can eat together in The Stables’ dining room or out in the pretty cottage garden.
The sleeping arrangements are as follows:
The Farmhouse sleeps six.
The Stables sleeps six.
The Dovecote sleeps two plus two on a double sofa bed.
The Garden House sleeps four plus two on a double sofa bed.
The bedrooms are carefully thought out, with every detail provided for guests. They are furnished with beautiful carved wooden or wrought iron beds (sometimes four posters), quality wallpapers, solid oak and flagstone floors and with open fires, providing a wonderful country house atmosphere. They all have ensuite bath or shower rooms.
The Stables, Garden House and Dovecote have self-catering kitchens; the Farmhouse does not. However, in the Farmhouse the dining room is available for catered guests. A three course set menu with coffee costs £28 a head, and can be provided with 48 hours’ notice. Self-catering groups can use the Stables kitchen which is equipped with a dishwasher, fridge, freezer, microwave, gas oven and espresso machine.
These include open fires in the Farmhouse and Garden House, a TV, DVD player, hi-fi, washing machine, tumble dryer and two bikes.
There is a conference room for up to 17, and another meeting room for a further ten if required.
Golf and tennis can both be arranged for your group, best arranged in advance of your stay.
Adjacent to Castle Combe (arguably the most beautiful village in the Cotswolds), 20 minutes from Bath, 40 minutes from Longleat safari park. 1hr 45 mins’ drive from London. Badminton Horse Trials one mile.
Airport: Bristol (40 mins); Heathrow (1hr 30 mins)
Station: Chippenham (direct service to London Paddington, 1hr 10 mins)
The house is 20 minutes from Bath, where the owners can arrange chocolate-making classes, and tickets to the Bath Thermal Spa if required. It’s also only a matter of minutes from Bristol, the Cotswolds and various attractions such as Longleat safari park; and just over an hour from London.
Other popular sights to visit include Stonehenge (one hour), Avebury 40 mins, Bristol 20 mins, Castle Combe (15 minutes’ walk) and Badminton Horse Trials (10 minutes by bike!).
