Crepe Farmhouse

Symondsbury, Bridport, Dorset, England

Crepe Farmhouse is a beautiful Georgian house. The accommodation is absolutely superb, with the added benefit of an indoor heated swimming pool, a hot tub and a jacuzzi as well as a cinema room and games room to keep the children occupied.

You can cook delicious meals in the beautifully-equipped kitchen or the owners can organise all manner of catering options plus various treats including a massage, baby sitting and recommended days out. The area is a treat for foodies, with a wonderful market in nearby Bridport. And you are only a few minutes from the coast.

A fine entrance hall with stripped floorboards leads to the main sitting room which has comfortable seating and a 42” flat screen TV. Opposite here is a new downstairs bedroom with a large en suite bathroom and garden views. Walk through two double doors and downstairs into the old cellar which has been converted into a cinema room, where guests can watch Sky TV or enjoy a DVD. There is also table football and lots of board games to keep people entertained during wet weather.

The large dining room has comfortable seating around a wood burner at one end and a large dining room table which is ideal for entertaining large groups. The kitchen next door has been thoughtfully designed, to include a new American fridge, two large sinks, two dishwashers and ample cupboard space for extra storage.

The kitchen leads out to a large laundry area with washing machine, tumble dryer and efficient hanging space for wet clothes and towels. You'll find a large area designated to recyling, and another specifically for storing all the extras that may accompany a large group, such as dogs, logs, bikes, prams etc.

Upstairs, seven further bedrooms are all individually decorated with colourful fabrics, painted furniture and new carpets throughout. All the bedrooms have zip and link beds for extra flexibility. They are king size, with linen-covered head boards and crisp white linen. The master bedroom and the attic room have TVs. All the bathrooms have been refurbished to include vanity units and large mirrors.

The village of Symondsbury has a good 16th century pub, The Ilchester Arms, and a popular primary school which has been running since 1868. The pretty church of St John the Baptist is also worth a visit. Many of the cottages were built with the yellow stone from a now disused quarry at the top of Sloes Hill just above the pub.

Colmers Hill is the hallmark of the village and definitely worth a walk to the top where the panoramic view is spectacular!

The busy, popular town of Bridport has a market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and visitors can enjoy browsing a wide variety of stalls. There is a huge choice of local and organically-produced food for which the area is now renowned, and a good selection of local places to eat. Entertaining events are frequently held at The Electric Palace and the Arts Club produces an excellent variety of artistic shows, plays and exhibitions.

West Bay, only a few minutes' drive from the centre of Bridport, has a small harbour where fishing trips can be organised. There is a good beach for swimming and plenty of rocks to climb for the more adventurous. Other good local beaches are at Charmouth, Seatown and Eype.

Lyme Regis, only a 20 minute drive from Bridport, is a lovely little town where visitors can enjoy a range of shops and restaurants and visit the famous Cobb near the harbour. The sandy beach and promenade are often busy in high season. There is a good local cinema for rainy afternoons.

This area of West Dorset is extremely popular with walkers and there are some lovely gardens worth a visit. Do read the Marshwood Vale Magazine or enquire at the Tourist Office in Bridport if you require further information. The in-house team at Crepe Farmhouse are always happy to help when required.
