14 Mount Pleasant Road

North West London, England

No 14 is a large, relaxed, family Victorian house in central London. With a difference. When you see the interior you’ll understand why this house has been used for numerous location shoots. The décor is whiter than white, with various surfaces in tongue-and-groove, white painted floorboards, white walls and white antique French furniture, all interspersed with bold works of art, chateau-style chandeliers, beds and chests of drawers, vibrant chair coverings and avant-garde floral arrangements.

The house has a garden, a huge, open plan living/kitchen/dining area with a long modern table and bright turquoise chairs, and a large deck area and garden outside the back door where a large group of friends or, perhaps, a wedding party can eat together under a pretty, jasmine-covered arch.

This property is very used to hosting children, dogs etc, and has a wonderfully relaxed ambience. People say they feel happy when they stay here. As soon as you arrive, you’ll understand why.

Probably the best way to describe the décor is a kind of shabby chic, not too smart but eclectic and interesting. The owner is a photographer - the house has been used quite a lot for magazine features and her sense of style is paramount. It does not feel so much a central London house as a beach style residence. The furniture is a mix of old and new, with lots of old French beds and bits of furniture picked up on travels. The kitchen/living/dining area is particularly special, created from five rooms knocked into one to make a big living space that opens onto the garden.

The house is built over three floors. It sleeps 12 in five double bedrooms (two of which have an extra single bed). You could also fit two more teenagers in the loft room (above the top, second floor). It’s definitely a teenagers’ room, however, not suitable for small children as it involves climbing up a steep ladder. Not everyone would like it!

The second floor has two bedrooms with a shower and loo accessible from both. There are three shower rooms altogether (including a large walk-in affair), and one bathroom.

These include broadband, cable TV, HD Sky, a washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher. There are two cookers, one large, one normal size, and a large gas hob. You’ll also find a smaller set of kitchen facilities on the top floor (a sink, fridge and small cooker).
