A beautiful area in the east of England, the county of Suffolk borders Cambridgeshire and Essex; it’s largely flat and made up of arable land with wetlands to the north. Also known as part of East Anglia, Suffolk houses the port Felixstowe; the largest container post in the UK.
The Suffolk countryside is known for looking quintessentially British, with the famous Dedham Vale also being affectionately labelled ‘Constable Country’ after the famous artist who’s paintings were inspired by its beauty. Well-known for its sense of space, Suffolk features all that you’d associate with English country charm; from babbling brooks, to wild meadows and ancient woodlands, there’s plenty to explore.
The county also boasts two ‘Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, Minsmere and the Dedham Vale. Rendlesham Forest is also well worth a visit, with many flocking to explore the UFO trail in hope of spotting one at the same place a sighting was spotted in 1980.
The pretty town of Woodbridge is one of the most popular destinations to visit. The gateway to the coast, it’s situated along the banks of the River Deben and is well known for its water-sports, in particular sailing and quaint, riverside living.
To the west of the county lies Newmarket; known by many as the ‘home of horse-racing’ over 5000 thoroughbred horses are housed in the area and this famous association with horses is well documented throughout the town, with horse warning lights at crossings, horse friendly pavements and due to the open heathland that stretches across the town; allowing visitors the chance to witness training.
