To the north of England lies the beautiful county of Lancashire; an area steeped in history it was mentioned in the Doomsday book of 1086 and founded as a county in the 12th century. Formerly a major commercial and industrial region Lancashire houses several former mill towns, giving the area a gritty charm, with perhaps its most famous tourist area being Blackpool.
Famed for its traditional seaside attractions, Blackpool has sustained its popularity with tourists throughout the ages and its pleasure beach is still visited by thousands each year. The beach became prominent in the 1800’s when the railway was built and still retains much of its appeal as an attractive destination for families.
Morecombe Bay is another one of the regions popular seaside resorts that has enjoyed a revival in recent years due to a multi-million pound development plan that has renovated the famous Midland Hotel; an Art Deco masterpiece that was one the area’s biggest draw. Not only is the does Morecombe’s golden sandy beach stretch for miles, but the nearby Victorian Pavilion, also known as the Winter Gardens is a fantastic place to visit.
Further north the beautiful Forest of Bowland is one of the most breath-taking places to visit. An ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, it’s also part of the Pennine range and is made up of gritstone fells and heather-clad moorlands. The perfect place to relax and unwind, enjoy a bike ride though the pretty cycle paths lined with tree canopies overhead, or indulge in a scenic picnic on one of the forest’s many river banks.
