Luxury Holidays in Kefalonia
The exotic island of Kefalonia is the largest island of the Ionian Sea and is a popular destination for family holidays and romantic retreats boasting picturesque villages, historic castles, monasteries, and stunning scenery. With crystal turquoise waters, vineyards, and luscious green landscape to explore, this magical island has plenty to offer all visitors.
Kefalonia's beaches are some of the finest in Europe with long sandy stretches and glistening waters. There are secluded coastlines and more popular holiday-style havens complete with facilities and if you are a fan of water sports there are perfect opportunities for a spot of adrenalin-filled fun. History buffs will love visiting Assos where there are well-preserved ruins of Venetian architecture that was destroyed in the 1953 earthquake and a fantastic fortress and also a visit the village of Fiscardo, the only place on the whole island to have survived the earthquake and one of Kefalonia's most elegant locations, with yacht owners and celebrities choosing Fiscardo as a top holiday spot on the island. Skala, in the south-east has the liveliest nightlife on the island and stylish bars, shops and restaurants add to the bustling atmosphere. Potamaki Beach in the seaside town is a haven for loggerhead turtles and organised night watches are on offer for those who wish to catch a glimpse of these rare species.
If you like to get out sightseeing then the resort of Lassi is perfect as all excursions pick up from here and it is close to the airport, has gorgeous sandy beaches, and is only three kilometres from Kefalonia's capital, Argostoli. In contrast to the more busy resorts, visit the peaceful village on the south-west coast, Svoronata, with its playful winding streets, character, and rugged charm. Surrounded by olive groves and orchards and set among rolling hills and valleys there are uncrowded beaches and local tavernas, perfect for sampling some gorgeous traditional Greek cuisine.
Foodies will delight in devouring fresh fish, meats, olive oil, vegetables and cheeses during a trip to Kefalonia and the streets are filled with wonderful smells of traditional dishes being prepared. Mediterranean, Greek and Kefalonian cuisine are all of offer at a quaint taverna and we recommend they are accompanied by a local Kefalonian tipple from one of the islands many vineyards.
