Two large rivers run through the department which give it its name. La Garonne and Le Tam are both wonderful rivers that offer visitors a huge variety of activities to get involved in ranging from fishing and walking along the banks to cycling through the coastal hills and canoeing or sailing downstream.
There are some great golf courses in the area and many visitors also enjoy horse riding and climbing. However, if you’d prefer to be a little less active and would enjoy a more relaxing break then you can be assured there is plenty to see and do that doesn’t require you to work up a sweat.
Montauban, with its pink roof tops throughout the town is known as ‘la ville rose’ and shows off amazing examples of some of the finest architecture in French history, beginning in the 12th Century and changing dependent on situations throughout the years, the buildings of the town tell a story themselves.
Another magnificent example of historic architecture in France can be seen if you take a trip to L'abbaye de Moissac where brilliant carvings and amazing statues welcome you to one of the most wonderful structures in the whole of the country.
The Gorges de L'Aveyron are an amazing place to take in some of the finest landscapes in the entire country. Resembling something out of the American West, the gorges of the area offer an inspiring sight and plenty of interesting wildlife and flora that is bound to be of interest.
