Dating back to 1890, this impressive home is full of authentic character and charm. It’s the ideal accommodation option for a family celebration or special occasion. Sitting just outside the Saxon village of Colyton (0.5 miles), you’ll find plenty of art galleries, pubs and eateries to explore. Get the whole gang together to go for a walk by the stream in Holyford Woods (2.5 miles), head to Lyme Regis (6.5 miles) to go fossil-hunting on the beach, or take a trip to Seaton for the Wetlands or a ride on the tramway.  The foodies in your group will love the opportunity to explore the small thriving market town of Axminster (6.5 miles), which is the home of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage Canteen. If you’re there in town on a Thursday, make sure you check out the weekly market – you’re sure to find some mouth-watering goodies to take back home to the cottage for dinner. There is golf available at Seaton, Lyme Regis, Sidmouth & Honiton, and this area is also great for cycling.

Step inside this grand abode and you’ll find a light and bright home adorned with beautiful decorative fireplaces and authentic original features. The entrance porch leads to a large hall with stylish parquet flooring. The kitchen/breakfast room is sure to inspire any budding chefs with its Aga and handy scullery. The back door leads out to a vegetable patch and herb garden, and there’s also a utility room with a quaint Victorian-style pulley clothes dryer and plenty of space for storing your walking boots and outdoor gear. Serve dinner in the impressive dining room, which features a serving hatch. The electric hostess trolley and butler’s pantry make hosting a breeze. Two steps down lead to the light and spacious conservatory, which offers another table for dining, and a door out to the pretty gardens. After dinner, head through to the lounge and you’ll find an open fire and a bay window with a seat where you can take in the lovely garden views. There’s a wonderful snug/second sitting room, if you’re yearning for a little quiet time, as well as a second smaller hallway with a spacious cloakroom with WC. A twin bedroom with an en-suite shower room and lovely valley views rounds off the ground-floor layout. Back in the hall, a beautiful large oak staircase leads to the first floor, where you’ll find six sumptuous bedrooms: two king-size with en-suite shower rooms, a double with en-suite shower room, a single with an en-suite shower room and two twin bedrooms. A stylish family bathroom completes the first-floor layout.

Outside, you’ll discover large grounds with well-kept mature gardens and lawn areas. Get the gang together to have some fun on the croquet lawn, the five-aside football pitch and the golf practice net. There’s also a pretty seating area at the pond, a greenhouse and a decked area with a BBQ.

We had 5 generations staying at Knowles over Christmas! The house worked really well for us all, from the downstairs en-suite bedroom with sitting room to all the upstairs bedrooms with en-suites. The owners who live nearby could not be more helpful and friendly. The house retains lots of its original features and although old fashioned in lots of Read morerespects it is also well furnished and very comfortable. The beds were wonderful and we all slept well. The kitchens worked well and again really well equipped. Christmas lunch for 11 is no mean feat but again there was an abundance of pots, pans etc, There was so much space inside and out that at no time did we feel crowded. We would highly recommend this house for large families or groups of friends getting together. The garden is wonderful, parking in abundance and the views beautiful. What more can I say? Hide

We were a large family group of 7 adults and 4 children aged 1 - 8 years and this house was ideal for us. The bedrooms are large and most have en-suite. The house is very well equipped. The grounds are lovely and the children particularly enjoyed playing football on the lower garden, with goal and balls supplied! The playground across the road waRead mores also a real bonus. The location suited us very well, being about 15 minutes' drive from Lyme Regis. We also enjoyed the open-top tram ride from Colyton Station to Seaton and back. We all enjoyed our stay and would like to have stayed longer. Hide
