Embrace nature in this remote cottage on the edge of Buttermere, in the Lake District National Park. The property sleeps eight guests across four bedrooms and has an idyllic location overlooking the lake, surrounded by mountains. Enjoy evenings of great food and wine on the wooden deck, soaking up your picture-postcard setting. The property has no TV or mobile signal, making it the perfect place to switch off and connect with loved ones. Take waterside or fell-top walks from the cottage, followed by a visit to the cosy local pub (0.5 miles). You’ll also be just 9.5 miles from the bustling market town of Keswick.

The 18th-century cottage exudes character and the decor is in keeping with the style of the property, cleverly combining contemporary touches with rustic charm. The spacious lounge is a wonderful place to enjoy each other’s company at the end of the day. Share stories by the roaring wood burner, play board games from the selection provided or simply lose yourself in one of the books. The room benefits from magnificent views over the lake, inspiring you to get outdoors and explore. The kitchen has everything you need to rustle up meals for the group, as well as a large pantry/utility room with a full-size freezer. Dine together around the large table in the light and bright dining room, where you’ll find ample seating for the whole party. The cottage is ideal for those who love to get out and about whatever the weather and has a spacious cloakroom/drying room for outdoor gear. On the ground floor is the king-size bedroom with an en-suite wet room. The remaining bedrooms are on the first floor, along with a family bathroom, shower room and separate WC – perfect for speeding up the morning routine! Outside – as well as the deck – there’s a large garden with a delightful mountain stream (supervise children near the water), as well as a picnic bench for al fresco dining. Two paddleboards are available throughout your stay, should you wish to get out on the lake.

Bowderbeck is a beautiful cottage in a stunning location. The walks directly from the door are wonderful and varied. The cottage was warm and cosy in November and a great pleasure to return to after a day out in the fells. The drying room was excellent for all our wet boots and jackets!
